If there's a 5 volt supply somewhere nearby, you should be able to use a standard pc heatsink/fan.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think if you check on this you might find that this workswith the Cayenne, but not the
Cayman
- I hope that I am wrong.

mpollard,
I do hope you are wrong. I would sure love to find something that works with MOST. I have been playing my iPod through my FM stereo and it is only 75% of the quality of a CD.
Russ
I've checked with them earlier and they stated that it will only be available in 2-3 months for the
Cayman
. I also had their product for my 530i, which worked great after some minor tweaking and uploading a new firmware. So, even if it's available, I would wait a few months before they work out all the bugs.
my guy in NYC audiodesignnyc.com has his own version, it cost $1800 installed. it is not made by dension. if you are interested you should call him. Stefano.
The Dension unit looks really nice. Since in addition to the ipod connection, you also get the USB and aux input. I think those would come in handy (a friend slaps a few songs on a USB stick for you to check out really quick). Oops...is that illegal according to the RIAA?
Dice system... I spoke with someone at Dice Electronics today. Their solution will sell for $399 & be available in ~ 2 weeks or so It sounds like the unit will plug into the CD changer port. A powered connection to the iPod will be supplied. We will need to figure a way to get this wire into the cockpit, or not. Likely, the iPod could be left under the hood with the unit, although they don' recommend this for fear of the iPod "melting in the heat". I suspect that the
Cayman
comes prewired for the 6 disc changer under the hood, especially with the PCM system... does anyone know if this a correct assumption? This may be a great solution... the iPod will be controlled as if it were a "virtual CD changer"...
drjazz, here is a quote from the hard cover book that I was given in Frankfurt:
'This optional CD autochanger has a total capacity of six audio CDs. Fully compatible with PCM, the compact unit installs neatly away in a niche in the front luggage compartment. The standard
Cayman S
comes ready prepared for future installation.'

The way I read this is that the fiber optic wiring is already installed in all
Caymans
.
>>fear of the iPod 'melting in the heat'...
Well, the DICE guysare from Vegas... but I'm not sure why the front storage would be hotter than the glassed in cockpit...Any owners from the warmer climes want to comment? I was planning on carrying the dog up there... (For the humor impaired, only kidding.) But I really hope they don't think the engine is up there...
I live in the UAE (united arab emirates) and it gets realllly hot over here. I've left my ipod in the car several times... yes the ipod felt very hot after having the car in the sun for a few hours... but it didn't seem to complain at all... only time will tell.. but I guess leaving the ipod under the hood would not be a problem... if you're worried about heat, you can easily attach some kinda heat sink to the ipodand maybe a little fan along with it. If there's a 5 volt supply somewhere nearby, you should be able to use a standard pc heatsink/fan. Having said all of that, I don't think heat would be an issue... if the CD Changer and Navigation unit can take it... I don't see why an ipod shouldn't.
Zuksh
I know that "The standard
Cayman S
comes ready prepared for future installation." However, upon inspection, there appears to be an empty conduit ending near the nav unit, no "unused wires" are seen. Does anyone think that a cable will be needed to connect to the back of the head unit - traveling through this conduit?? I hope not...
My understanding was that the base
Cayman S
came equipped with the MOST fiber connection whether you got the CD-Changer or not. The catch, is that the base
Cayman
is not wired for the electrical, unless you order the CD-Changer. Your Mileage May Vary.
Hey NewPorscheGuy ... do u have any special stereo options (e.g.,
Bose
) or PCM? I ask because I don't and wondering if the ipod option will work with the stadard setup or u need something special? Thanks.
Fellas,
I got the plain old stero (not a
Bose
fan), no PCM. The iPod integration kit doesn't have a part number attached to it on the list the dealer gave me of '
Porsche
Critical Systems' add-ons. The rest of the list includes stuff like Lojack, radar detection, window tinting, clear bras, park assist, and extra warrantee. I'm assuming that it's a dealer install of a 3rd party system. Also on the list is sat radio, but the salesman told me that it won't go in
Caymans
or
911s
, just the big pig.
As an FYI I spoke to Dension USA (DICE) again today because my former contact there has left so I established a new contact and expect to be hearing back from them about the application for the MOST system in the
Cayman
and hope to be able to get a sample product to test for our users here.
I'll bet the 'option' NewPorscheGuy got was simply the dealership installing an FM reciever type of connection. They're probably going to permanently mount it and hard-wire it but it will still probably be based off of FM reception. That for $700? Not my cup of tea.
Shane
NewPorscheGuy,
There is no factory part to install an iPOD at the present time. You can install Sat Radio IF and only if you have PCM and then pay about $1000 for the
Porsche
Sat Radio tuner from the Cayenne, one of our members here has done it. If you dealer is installing a hard wired system then either it is something that isn't on the market yet, or it is actually an FM transmitter system. Let us know what your dealer has to say, but if they can't provide part numbers that should be a big clue as to what they are actually doing...
KMS,
I figured that it was 3rd party, and assumed that it was hard wired instead of FM transmitted. You know what happens when you assume. I'm glad I posted, and HD stepped up to question the technology. I might have been very disappointed. Calling the dealer today.
hey guys...so you are saying you can get sat radio integrated with the cayenne radio? is it xm or sirius.. or will it work with either? will it also allow for an ipod input later? thanks
