Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Here is the scope that I bought on Amazon and used for the rebuilding of my engine.
Leading evidence: 'Use rebuilding of my engine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set wrist pins and clips' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was using it to set the wrist pins and clips but it is also good for looking for any scoring.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just completed a full evasive bore scoping and it worked great.
I would like to borescope my 996 and would like to see if anyone has recommendations for a borescope to purchase. It looks like a small camera is key to success but i havent been able to find any recommendations that people have used. I would like to keep the cost around $100 but dont know if that is realistic.

a couple of years ago based on a recommendation from Jake, and been very happy. I just completed a full evasive bore scoping and it worked great. Tiny head is key.
I got one that Jake Raby suggested in one of his videos. Can't find the model at this time, but it was about $40 and connects to my android phone via bluetooth. Worked well enough for me to find out I have bore score on cylinders 4, 5, and 6. But I missed the crack in cylinder #1.
I think any of the under $100 units would serve you well.
I bought this one last month and love it. Its gone up in price by $15 since I bought it though. I like that it has its own screen so I dont have to worry about faulty BT connections. It wearily flips between horizontal and vertical angles too.

That one elwoodcg posted has what would be a very valuable feature...being able to switch camera angles while in use. Mine has a 90 degree adaptor, but has to be either straight or 90, not both. I found it very difficult to navigate the labyrinth of passages with the 90 degree attachment, but it would have been nice once in there for sure.
You can scope 4-5-6 without removing spark plugs/coils or even draining the oil. By removing the big plug for the wrist pin installation access, you can scope the whole bank 2 of cylinders.
Yeah, that feature is awesome. The head is around 8mm and fits through spark plug holes. I cant speak for the sump side. One more thing, I just noticed theres a 15% off coupon so that brings it down to $76.
Yeah, 8mm will be fine for spark plug holes and even Doc’s approach, going through the wrist pin insertion plug, but might be tricky if you plan to go up through the sump. Even at 5.5mm I got it stuck a few times.
The port for piston pin installation in Bank 2 is the plug with the hex socket to the right of the crank pulley and left of the coolant hose fitting in the photo above
I remember seeing this port from one of the YouTubers that was attempting to ram a wristpin circlip into the #6 piston. He was NOT successful. I think he even had to take it all apart because he couldn't get the misaligned circlip back out.
This seems like a great idea, but wouldn't the connecting rods and pistons at different positions make it almost impossible to get the camera to maneuver around? I assume you would need a borescope with one of those right angle mirrors. I couldn't even fathom how an amateur like me could even get it to turn into the bottom of the bore.

This was the one that Flat ^ was recommending and it was only $35.99. I used it with my iPad so I could have the iPad with the image set up for easy viewing while I manipulated the scope. I was using it to set the wrist pins and clips but it is also good for looking for any scoring.
As for trying to use access through the plug and the holes in the cylinders I think it would be hard to manipulate the scope to get good views of the cyliner walls.
