I sometimes think that manufacturers may include cheap technology at a high price for the end customer to have repaired, just to justify their extended warranties.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I don't think you can go wrong in now or in Jan, the market isn't crashing, its just removing the covid inflation and getting back to normal, They won't keep dropping but will be cheaper than they used to be over the last few years.

Hi Folks, Please reply via PM if it's more appt given the question I am asking. I have been offered a very special early 911 "off-market" it will require a raid on the piggy bank and selling my manual Shark GT4 Clubsport to move on it. I've rung a couple of OPCs and checked the usual online players (dire offers as they completely ignore spec etc) - it appears that either no-one is buying or will only buy at stupid money (online portals) I know the market is soft, its the wrong time of year etc. just so I might recognise a decent offer when I see it I am interested in any actual recent selling experiences from this forum via PM please. I would be grateful if this thread didn't turn into another market/futures speculation thread (please). Thanks in advance, Kevin

Try motorway (if you haven’t) but pre prepared to have lost £20-£25k on it if you brought got anything around £100k mark. As a guide I’ve just paid £75k for Nov 2021 PDK car and I think trade on that is high 60s. Manual cars don’t seem to be shifting I’ve been watching for ages and hardly any sold Edited by P155flaps on Friday 1st December 13:44

POST 3Original post

In the market it either go SOR with the usual suspects, or try sell privately and make sure it’s 3-5k less than any trade. Not a great time to be selling all around

Haven't spoke since the deal was done but in the initial chat the sales person told him it is likely the trade-in value would be starting with a 7. They must have been offsetting the profit in the spyder. The trade to retail spread with an OPC is usually £10k. So if he was offered anything £70k+ that’s generous. If the GT4 is mint and can go straight into an OPC showroom I’d ring a few dealerships. They were actively buying stock last year but I suspect eased off now. Those online WBAC like portals are a waste of time for here cars. Give Joe at Supercar Sourcing a call. He buys and has customers waiting for certain models.

My 2021 13,500 mile GT4 PDK sold to OPC for £72,000 last month. Was offered £71,000 by a different OPC a few weeks before. A third OPC said they’d offer “about £70,000” and would call me back for specifics. Never heard from them again. I had originally used Carwow, who ‘sold’ my car to an independent for £73,500. Dealer turned up to collect (a week later than agreed), claimed the drivers door had been repainted (it hadn’t) and the tyres were wearing unevenly (they weren’t). Wanted to “do me a favour” and take it away for £70,000. Told him to Foxtrot Oscar. Avoid the Carwow service like the plague. For context. I almost bought an Emira in May. Lotus offered £81,000 trade in back then. I forgot to add. OPC had my car up for £80k - it sold within a week. Edited by neilf on Friday 1st December 23:01

It's too easy for dealers to bid "high" thereby giving them sole access to the car, then try to b***s**t their way to a lower price.

Easy transaction and more money than I was expecting, more than Carlow suggested more than Motorway and more than WBAC. In this market a very positive result. Shows each case is different you cannot make across the board decisions based on one transaction. We have bought a few 718 GT4 in the trade in the last week or so starting from £68k for manuals and mid £70s for PDK

Many thanks.

I've been making some enquiries recently about p/x my 981 GT4 at a couple of OPCs. As a guide i'd say find whatever they have for sale that looks like your car and knock 10-15k off. East London were very helpful and sent me a screenshot of a WBAC valuation at 44k. That was the end of that conversation.

POST 27Original post

Hey guys, when do you think the best time to buy will be? I have wanted a PDK GT4 for quite a while and think the time maybe coming up.

This post has really helped so thx for all submissions both public and pm - I’ve concluded that I’ll keep mine as I’m not taking a significant needless loss. I have a first world problem for which I’m very grateful - I either buy a nice restored ‘72 911T and keep the GT4 or sell it and buy a superb original ‘72 911S…..neither is a hardship tbh :-)

An OPC trade buyer tried a similar “WBAC are about as good as it gets” ploy initially when buying back my 18 month old Cayman 2.0. It turned out they actually wanted the car, and within 10 minutes the conversation had changed quite a bit. You can’t really blame them, I bet they are incentivised on the difference between buying and selling prices. This is probably not the right time of year for them to really be feeling it… Liam

Easy transaction and more money than I was expecting, more than Carlow suggested more than Motorway and more than WBAC. In this market a very positive result. Shows each case is different you cannot make across the board decisions based on one transaction. Also another contact worth a call is Geoff Wong who is a buyer for Dick Lovett based at Porsche Bristol. I also had a very positive experience with Carwow earlier this year, I sold my 2014 Range Rover Sport for £4k more than WBAC were offering, the dealer came 1 week later, payed the money into my account and left all with in 1/2 hour of arriving. He also sold it on 1 week later for £4k more....so win win all-round really.

I agree, and now well track and race proven ... much cheaper fun than a GT3 and with the front and back boots, much more practical. There are a lot of tuning options as well ... I looked yesterday at the "best value" GT4RS I could find and it had £34k of extras, most of which were fripperies ... at £165k, more than £100k more than the suggested car and how much more fun ? More like how much more risk if a person plans to use it on track ... and how much uselessly faster if planning to use it on the road? ... but still nice

The extra power of the 718 is good and would cost £10k ish to add to a 981, ... it is quite a lot heavier with some unwanted items such as the particulate filter, but the only choice if you want PDK and for flat changes and gearing that could be worth 10% over a manual ?? Less involving on the road but ??? I have far too much invested in my 981 but I can't complain about the total depreciation for the eight years of fun that I've had ... and it is a sorted car which is as cheap to run as any in this performance category ... and much cheaper than most to "put at risk"

[Img]https://thumbsnap.com/i/UqKJdjzH.jpg[/thumb] Edited by JayK12 on Wednesday 6th December 13:59 Sounds epic, what's it like on consumables given the weight penalty compared with the GT4? It's not bad to be honest, tyres are 19" and i run 255 front 265 rear. Can go 275 rear but the car feels more darty like this. Brakes i the major concern with BMW M cars, always has been. However supposedly they did ok with the F series cars. For road its fine, i think on track it could do with AP's up front. Friends who track theirs said my setup with Lines, Fluid and Pagid RS29s would be sufficient for a couple of track days a year and I can add cooling ducts front and rear to help (the cooling is poor). So I'll try with that. I think mine being a manual is around 1620KG, shes a fatty, but it honestly feels so light on its toes compared to the M4/M3, you'd think it was 1400KG. You can shave 100kg out of them pretty quickly, but I'm not going down that route, as I like to use the car on the road too. My last tracl car was a Radical SR3 RSX so everything is going to feel like a boat compared. Shes certainly not sluggish 530lbft, 3000rpm feels so strong, pins you. It will be around 550hp/550lbft as I'm removing the OPFs and 2nd CATS and Litchfield will retune, it doesn't need more power but with 3 selectable maps, you might aswell. I did have the lighter CS Wheels on it but they've gone. Think about dropping to 18s. I'd say running costs similar if not cheaper, but its half the price of a GT4 to buy to start with. I think that 55k is very likely on 981s myself. Ashgood have a decent spec 718 for 73k today so private sale 981s need to be cheaper by a fair margin. Spring will stop the slide but I don’t think values will actually recover any lost ground.

POST 67Original post

The Ashgood car looks a nice spec, wonder what they must have paid for it. Mid 60s?

POST 68Original post

I’ve recently let go a Oct 22 718 GT4 (list £93k) with 4K miles , for £80k for a quick easy sale . I was regretting the decision in the following days thinking Id been a bit hasty and the market wasn’t that bad , but its looking about right now if I’m honest . Maybe a couple of £k low but not miles away .

Trade bids are poor at the mo, market is slow but spring it usually picks up. In this market everything is possible ... there are a couple of things supporting 981 value ... only around 500 in the market compared to around 1100 718's ... the 981 can at a cost be tuned to be close to the 718 pace and it does still have the "race" engine which is well proven, it is lighter and it does not have the particulate filter which some dislike, but it is only manual so if you are looking for a PDK the 718 or 718RS are the only option. Incidentally, there will soon be 200 ? 718RS in the market, 10% of which appear to be for sale at the moment. Of the GT4's, there are currently 25 981 GT4's and 97 718 GT4's for sale ...

Thankyou both. I have been watching the values for around 6 months, not close to a position to purchase yet as have just sold my one car S4 Avant to release some cash for a house move. The intention being that once we move house and have more driveway space & garage, I can run an everyday work car for client visits plus a weekend fun car. GT4 is currently number one on the list. I just wondered with the 718 GT4 coming down in price, pushing down the 981 GT4, is there a point where they will just not drop any more? £60-65k still looks exceptional value for what the GT4 offers.

POST 71Original post

One of the things pulling secondhand prices up is the increase in new car costs and some of the new technology which a purist may prefer not to have ... and technology which is either most of the time invisible or unhelpful and /or expensive when it goes wrong. I sometimes think that manufacturers may include cheap technology at a high price for the end customer to have repaired, just to justify their extended warranties. Would Porsche do that ... ? I'm sure that they try very hard to not have problems with PDK gearboxes, though there were the 981 gearbox replacements due to a change in spec and the Porsche policy on gearbox issues is replacement rather than repair, at a cost, This may be more to do with the way in which modern motor mechanics are trained ... but it's a big plus for the very good independent Porsche specialists who really value their time served engineers and to whom these engineers seem to gravitate. All IMHO !

POST 72Original post

Percy. said: Sorry for potentially highjacking your thread, but is it realistic that we will see £55k 981 GT4s in the next 6 months? It's six of one and half a dozen of the other when you wait for a price point to be reached. You limit yourself to always looking for the lowest priced cars advertised which 'usually' means they're the lowest spec, highest mileage and probably need several items refreshed soon after you've bought it. You can easily find yourself spending £5K on brakes and tyres a few months after you've bought a GT4 if the seller has been holding off on replacing them! The other side of the waiting game is you wait 6 months and then decide they might drop in price more. So you wait another 6 months. And then another 6 months. And all of a sudden you've waited 2 years and the cars will be 2 years older and getting on for being 10 years old and will need more refreshing and will still cost the best part of £60K to buy. In my opinion the 981 GT4 has already reached it's low point and won't be going much lower than high 50s. Just like the Cayman R reached its low point of just underr £40K six years ago. And they're now at least 12 years old! So my advice would be if you want a 981 GT4, go for it now

POST 73Original post

I can’t see them dropping too much more in last few weeks I bit at mid 70s for a decent spec (pccb, bucket, Bose, carbon, extended leather etc) PDK Nov 21 car with fresh service and 2 years warranty for 75k. Crack on and enjoy I say 👍🏻

The current drop in 718 GT4 prices is down to market condition but will firm up as everything has got its bottom value, if you are in it for the long term you've got nothing to worry about and they are a good purchase . Let’s face it in 6 years or less you not be able to buy any new NA cars!

The GT4RS is not even as "finished" as my own 981 GT4 ... and the 718 GT4 of the spec suggested at £75k is such a wonderful thing for both every day and trackdays. In terms of pace, yes the GT3 and GT4RS are faster, but learning to drive better and making the most of a GT4 is worth a large proportion of the difference between them and the GT4, and in terms of the practicalities and running costs, there is no contest. The Porsche warranty runs to May24 and will be renewed as its a no brainer. The only car i would replace it with is a 718 GT4 PDK ,which would probably be my last Porker after6 and keeper as I am not interested in an EV version. I shall be watching the market with interest over the next couple of years!!

Only a few GT4’s on the Porsche site and the few I’ve checked are listed at higher than original purchase price. I have a MY2023 GT4 book price of £108k fully specd and don’t expect any real depreciation over the next 5 years for a car now discounted. I won’t be paying another £80k for RS version. Also a new GTS decent spec is £95k. I would of thought the GT4 price would sit nearer the middle of the two

But nowadays I can only go off my personal experience of selling the eight 2 to 4 year old Porsches that we have owned. As a rule the porsche centres I have used have always looked to make £10 to 15k margin (less warranty and prep) on a car if taking it in on a Px. Obviously the greater the value of the car and the larger their outlay and they will look to make greater numbers due to the higher risks involved. If we use the gt4rs as an example and they way dealers seem to be slashing prices recently. Your Px figure is going to reflect this, personally I can’t see there being any great losses if you bought new, but if you bought at overs it may hurt a little if you need to sell. The gt4rs is an interesting one, I’m shocked how quickly the prices have dropped from the early 200k mark. I personally thought they would have held better for longer. Either way I personally think all new porsche Gt cars are a great buy at list, even if they have started to depreciate slowly.

Those online WBAC like portals are a waste of time for here cars. Give Joe at Supercar Sourcing a call. He buys and has customers waiting for certain models. Thanks for the kind recommendation.

As there's quite a few 718 GT4 advertised at dealers at just under £75k you'd think there might be a few more private sales going on at high sixties/seventy k thus netting the vendor an extra few grand, ( if they were offered trade price of £65k ). I guess a lot of people may choose to loose that difference for the sake of an easy sale but if the car still has OPC warranty then there'd not be much difference for the buyer looking at privately advertised cars at £69k vs via dealer at £74k but private vendor could make themselves £4k more..? I'm looking to buy a car at around £65k - £70k max but currently thinking my choice is really 981 as there's no privately advertised 718's below £70k

I’ve got to ask, because you’re clearly not short of a few quid and it seems rather obvious to me.
