Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Back in the late 50's and 60's there was a thing made by Motorola. It was a little box that you could hook up to your car radio and it would cause a delay which gave a beautiful and very slight echo effect to music being played. We called it a 'Reverb'. Does anyone remember this thing and if so are they still around. I tried to Google it and absolutely nothing. Curious Russ

POST 2Original post

I had a motorola radio in my Studebaker wagon. It made lots of strange noises (the radio and the car).

POST 3Original post

old technology... try sound surround, which, in instances, create an echo effect by timing a small delay on the rear speakers (behind the listener) The purpose of a sound sorround is to give the impression of being in a concert, where speakers are placed in different spots and walls to resonate different soundds. (correct me if I'm wrong)

POST 4Original post

I use to have an old Studi as well! Funny looking little car, but got us where we wanted to go! I think I have a pic somewhere I will try to find it and post it. Russ

POST 5Original post

Crazy, That sounds right. This old reverb thing was incredible for its time and it made music sound fantastic. Stereo was still in the infant stage, but if you had a reverb in your car, you had the babes! Russ drifting back in time......

POST 6Original post

Hmmm... so I guess its kinda like having 600lbs. of stereo equipment, video equipment and other bling in the trunk of a huge SUV riding on 28" today!

POST 7Original post

Crazy, The old reverb was the size of a cigar box and for back then that was really someting. It fit perfectly 55 chevy right under my 45 rpm record player. Russ

POST 8Original post

Back in high school a good friend of mine had one in the back of his '67 Baracuda. We thought it sounded great.

POST 10Original post

Interesting. this was way before my time, and so I wonder how it works. (I learned how a analog odometer and turn signals work, and found them quite cool, you know, how they function.) I might go into a specialized course next year (auto electronics) so hopefully I'll find out there

POST 11Original post

Probably can't squeeze the surfboard in the back of the Cayman like you could the Studi... What year is that pic Russ? Paul

'surround sound' was actually developed by dolby laboratries in the mid 70's and is a process of decoding sound to make it sound 'surrounding' to the listener. it does not cause an echo...DSP or digital signal processing can cause echo effects as well as other sound effects. Russ....i believe this might be what you are looking for...unfortunately the auction is over...but you might find it useful in identifying other units....good luck. <input type="image" height="480" width="640" src="/UserFiles/reverb.jpg" /> http://www.ebay.com.my/viItem?ItemId=5871571938 Edited by - RedRocket on 03/08/2006 7:34:07 PM

POST 13Original post

Devo, the year was 1966, surfboards were getting shorter for the first time. I could have never put my 10'-6' in the car. I started surfing in 1959 right after I saw the movie Gidget! RedRocket, OMG! Memory returns! That is IT! Yes it only had two knobs. I knew someone would find one somewhere! Aloha Russ

POST 14Original post

Russ, I love that picture, you don't look much different now! I love nostalgia! Have you played with the surround effect the Bose has? It sounds kinda like that....

POST 15Original post

Chris you are far too kind! And yes I was playing with the surround effect today listening to the Moody Blues. I found that I like it best on HIGH, with bass at 7 and treble at 3, fader is at 6. However I seem to change it to work with the type of music I am listening to. Here's another oldie, check out the Chevy in back of us, 1963 Manhattan Pier just got done surfing! POST 16Original post

Russ, in the most non-gay'ish way, your body is great! Both now and then! Good job

POST 17Original post

Russ those pictures are awesome. So how did you make it from California to Hawaii? Don't tell me that you surfed!!! I remember the reverb box. In the 70s there was Quadraphonic by SQ and CD4 'decoders' with the extra channels in the lateral grooves of the records. I only remember the Dolby technology in reference to noise filtration for tapes, but, hey, it was a while ago. You could easily find the circuit plans for that box and duplicate it with modern parts. I guarantee there ain't no ICs, RAM or ROM to it! Nice posting!

POST 18Original post

Well, speaking of sounds, I just pulled out the War CD with the Low Rider track. What better place to play it than in a Cayman with a Bose ...

POST 19Original post

need_cayman, I appreciate the kind words. Trying hard to stay healthy most of my life and actually having a lot of fun doing it! Dave & Kaiser, I grew up in Orange County and lived there till 1968 when I moved here, then went back to CA and moved here for good in 1982. Here is a pic with one of my army buddies, look at those classic cars!

POST 20Original post

Kaiser, I can appreciate your research on 'surround sound'. looks like you did a search and ended up on about.com http://hometheater.about.com/od/beforeyoubuy/a/surroundsound.htm if you want to get really technical maybe you would be interested in this.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surround_sound i cant agree that I was only conveiniently right.Dolby did coin the phrase 'surround sound'asmost peoplerefer to ittoday.Dolby also made this technology widely available in home systems which we all use today. albeit that there were other forms of technology used before this to give the listener a feeling of being surrounded by music. My pointwas that there is no new 'sound surround' and 'surround sound' is not 'new' technology and that DSP is what is used to give listeners feelings of being in a concert hall, or different environment. i dont post in threads to make myself sound intelligent....i was trying to clear up any confusion on the topic. POST 21Original post

before i pontificate.....hmmmm...well bud...you may want to take a little of your own advice. Thomas Dolby is a musician from the UK. has no affiliation with Dolby Laboratories, except that he borrowed their name. do a little research. Ray Dolby is the Chairman and Founder of Dolby Laboritories. which did...did...bring 'surround sound' as it is known today
and recognized by the masses, to the home theater. There is no need for the history lesson bud. although i am sure you are qualified to give us one. I dont use Wilkpedia as a source for information. I was being facetious since it looked very much like you did a little google dance to find a way to start an argument with my post. i never claimed to be an expert and was not 'pontificating'. give me
a break! you seem to be making a habit of taking a fairly benign thread and turning it into an arguement or a perch from which you....yes you...pontificate. as the word is defined by Webster.....'to speak or express opinions in a pompous or dogmatic way' i suggest you go back and check my original post. try reading it slowly..maybe a couple of times. then take a look at your post....an obvious attack or argument. i dont come to caymanclub to be grouched at by an old fart (you called yourself this). im here for a good time, and im a nice guy...i like people. in the future. if you want to spout off, save everyone here the pain of having to read through crap and send me a PM. Do like your momma told you...if you dont have anything nice to say.....dont say anything. ./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/argue.gif Russ, sorry your thread is getting spoiled. I never intended to get into an argument over something so stupid. K-Man S,....i know......but he started it. Edited by - RedRocket on 03/22/2006 5:50:46 PM

uhhhh.....LMAO!!!! over....? well, maybe not just yet.... Troll?....what the heck?! am I on Caymanclub.net or Confusingthingspeoplesay.com you old pharts were talking?.....check the thread...you werent even part of it until your comment on my post...so in essence you popped in..not me. hurt my feelings....uh...nothing you could say could offend me. I only get offended by things that make sense. I never said you said i was stupid....where did you get that from? are you drinking tonight? a huge gap between our perception of things....any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental i assure you. i did call you an old fart...using a term you chose to call yourself...hmm.last time i checked that wasnt a crime. and your mother....think your reading wayyyyy to much into that. Kaiser....I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you. ok....if you want....its over.......peace, Bud. Edited by - RedRocket on 03/22/2006 8:08:20 PM

Well Russ, we got the old fart and the young fart going at it - my age is something in the middle and as I read it sitting here in the middle it does have a bit of a Reverberator effect on me./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/drinkers.gif Gotta love that old stereo technology. I've got one of those old wire reel to reels and boy we've come a long way baby.

POST 24Original post

K-Man-Sculpture, when does your car arrive anyway? We need something real to talk about.

POST 25Original post

hey....who you callin a young fart?..../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif.....don't worry....im finished...even if Kaiser wants to continue this relentlessly ridiculous debate. cheers....
