Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In my BMW X5 I had a direct Aux input to the radio head unit, this "optimized" Sirius, but, still not as good as a CD or FM Stereo.

POST 1Original post

Good news for Sirius Radio ... I was able to easily transfer my Sirius system form my previous vehicle into the Cayman . The receiver nicely fits into the slot just below the climate controls and gets power from the plug in the footwell area of the passenger side. The wire can be tucked away easily with minimal visability. The best news is that the antenna is able to obtain an excellent (90% as compaired to an external mount) signal from w/in the car! I was easily able to fish the wire to behind the passenger seat and place the antenna under the cargo mesh. No perminent connection needed, no unsightly antenna outside of the vehicle! The signal from the receiver "goes through" an FM station - however, it is a 9+ out of 10 in quality, not at all like the FM transmision from the iPod converters.

drjazz, I'm glad you got Sirius installed, I happen to prefer Sirius to XM. However, I am waiting for a direct Sirius receiver that connects to the MOST system like the Cayenne tuner mentioned here the other day, but at a more reasonable price. The FM modulation for the Sirius tuner still lacks the fidelity of the direct digital signal from the satellite radio tuner and while it doesn't make a difference to some, for some reason to me it does, hence I'm still waiting. However, if you can write up an article with some pictures I'm sure several readers here would be interested in such an article!

I agree with you re: sound quality. I too significantly prefer Sirius to XM, I think it is overall just better. One problem is that the bit rate at which Sat radio broadcasts, likely they are sending out at < 128 kbps so no matter what you do the quality is lacking. In my BMW X5 I had a direct Aux input to the radio head unit, this "optimized" Sirius, but, still not as good as a CD or FM Stereo. I too am waiting for Dension to come out with something... I'tt get some picts together./..

I have a STARMATE. Got it in May, but, don't think that is available any more...They are prob all about the same.

POST 7Original post

Do you have a pix of your starmate radio?. I purchased the new Sirius radio last week and brought it to the dealer with me today as I looked at cars & no way does it fit in the open slot below climate controls.... Close but no cigar.... So i'm left w/ mounting it in the glove box.
