Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I am from the 911 board and just got a call from a friend about changing the engine oil in his '98 996. He said that he removed a bolt at the rear of the engine with a 17mm wrench and a spring and a metal doodad came out along with 2 quarts of oil. Later he figured that the drain plug proper was the plug that required an 8mm allen and having removed that plug about 6 quarts came out. What is the first bolt that he removed????? He things it might be related to an oil pressure sender that he saw in the Pelican catalog.

POST 2Original post

This was most likely the oil pressure relieve valve or the oil pressure safety valve. Both have a piston and a spring behind a cap screw. Put it back in and you are good to go.........

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply. I will pass it on.
