I've looked everywhere I can think of to find a diy for the
Carnewal exhaust
mod. Found one old thread but the posted link no longer works. Anyone here ever see instructions or a video on this ?
There used to be an Articles forum that contained info like this. It's been gone for a while.
Hi, You are likely to find something on YouTube. Also look for Fister as they seem to do the same thing. Both take the stock system, open it up and do minor surgery (I called it a vasectomy) and "Bob's your uncle". I had my local "we work on everything" shop install the
Carnewal
on my
987.2
.
They described it as very easy and charged 2 hours labor.
Carnewal
has the option of a bag of new fasteners and hangers for $70.00 and my shop appreciated it. They liked the idea of modified OE haardware. They had installed aftermarket and custom built systems and found that OE is longer lasting due to the quality of the steel. The consensus was it's not too loud and "Sounds better". I also used the
FABSPEED
exhaust
tips.
The order process went well once I understood the prices on the website are Euro prices and they are more to cover US shipping. FEDEX tracking let me know where the packaging was through the process.
I like mine, hope you like yours.
Very cool,
@NTesla
- Are you saying you bought a Carnewal off-the-shelf from Belgium from Gert, had it shipped here to the US, and then had a local wrench install it? Here in the US, you can get Carnewal from Cantrell (Washington state). They also sell off-the-rack, modding your own, core swaps, etc.
Ha! Yes I dealt with Gert direct.
I did mine myself. search Google images for pictures of your specific muffler cut open by somebody else. You need to know what is going on inside because you are not gonna cut the whole thing open but instead just cut a V slot in the top of the muffler so you can get in there and drill holes in the internal pipe. That V slit is simple to tack weld closed with a $99 wire welder. The other place you opened it up is through the opening where the crossover tube goes. Look in that hole and you’ll see a perforated baffle. It is very hard to drill through, but if you have a surveyor or steak or a horseshoe steak, you can sharpen the tip with the grinder And just punch the tiny holes that are in it a lot larger.Definitely add a 981 tip that you can score off of eBay. The oval one flows a better than any of the 987 tips and they are cheap.
Just checked the Fister website for the
exhaust
mod, as I had them do it on my 996 and loved the results, but found for the
Boxster/Cayman
they do it on the
986
and the
987.2
but not the
987.1
. Leaves me out of that category, I’m bummed because I would love to go that route.
I’ve been looking for the same thing! It’s tough to find a reliable guide for the
Carnewal exhaust
mod. Have you checked YouTube or any
Porsche
-specific forums? Sometimes the modding community shares their own DIY guides there. If I find anything, I’ll definitely share it here!
I've looked everywhere I can think of and still no comprehensive diy.
Hey, I appreciate your reply and sharing details of your mod. From what I've seen in the past, the
Carnewal exhaust
involves a more extensive modification and that's what I was looking for. Might give yours a try though, thanks!
