POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I was in the market for an aftermarket exhaust and was trying to decide between fabspeed and "tubi style". I came across a great deal on a used fabspeed set so I decided to go ahead and try them out. I heard/watched numerous vids between these and the tubi. Although the tubi was extremely pleasing to the ear, the price was a little steep just for more sound. I also thought about the FisterDs but they didn't have a set to fit my C4S. Spoke to him personally and he's a great guy by the way. Anyway I decided to go with the fabspeed and after 6 hours at the shop(i had a couple rounded bolts that he struggled with and there was only one mechanic on duty) I finally had it installed. My hunger from only having a cup of coffee that day quickly went away as I jumped in my car in anticipation of hearing a new throaty rumble. Started her up and........she sounded almost like my oem exhaust. I pulled away and she still sounded the same. I punched it and I finally heard a slightly throatier sound but not crazy noticeable. So around 3-5k rpms I can tell a slight difference but not overly significant. I guess I'd expect this result with a hack mod but not from fabspeed. My question is...are there different maxflow exhausts? Do I need to add something to give these a little more rumble? I've heard some clips and some folks even say the fabspeed mufflers are "aggressive". However, mine are more tame. You hear them when you want to but you wouldn't notice by just driving around cruising. They sound equivalent to the FisterD reviews. Anyone else have these?

POST 2Original post

I've got Fabspeed Maxflows on my '99 3.4l M96. everything else is stock. It sounds nothing like the stock mufflers. I've gotten comments from "wow this thing sounds awesome! Aggressive but not too loud" ... to "wow this thing is crazy loud, I don't know how you drive around in it"... So, what I'm trying to say is - opinions are like...you know the rest ! All that matters is what you think, and there's no real way of quantifying everyones opinion - unless you go to a sound level meter at a given distance, but that's just amplitude, not tone/timbre. Good luck finding the holy grail!

POST 3Original post

tubis are loud, loud, probibly should be illegal

^^^^Guess it Depends on what you like, but i'd have to Agree with you on this one

I have the fabspeeds on my 2000 and they are just right in my opinion. Way better than stock. Nice tone starts at 4K and really screams at 5K. You want sweet tone, not just noise. Music!

POST 6Original post

I have a full Fabspeed exhaust, header back to tips. Get lots of compliments on the sound. Personally, I could go a bit more aggressive sound-wise, but it's a good mix of sound and civility. Fabspeed Drive by clip2 - YouTube

POST 7Original post

I also have the FabSpeed Maxflo on my '03 cab and love the sound. I will say the sound really opened up once I added their CF Competition Intake. OMG the sound is glorious! Later I also added 200 cell cat x-pipe which also changed the sound for the better.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm wondering if I have an earlier version of the fabspeed mufflers. They sound ok at higher rpms. Just need a tad more grunt. Nothing too loud and obnoxious though. Maybe add the CAI?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 12847020

I'm not sure about the ones you heard but perhaps it was with headers and cat-bypass pipes as mine aren't "loud" at all. It is barely louder than oem when cruising and provide a nice sporty sound when you're on it. It takes it a step above if you really wale on it and get above the variocam switchover point. I made a vid with just mufflers only(without aftermarket cats/headers) where I take it through various rev ranges(over 4k, 2-3k cruising, idling, etc) so peeps can get an idea of really getting on it vs. just cruising. I know this type of vid is Schnell's fav as it's just sitting in the garage in neutral but the sound is very similiar when I'm on the road as well. TubiMufflers - YouTube OP, if you want more sound at all rev ranges, I suggest getting either 200cell cat or Cat-Bypass pipes(this will introduce some rasp though).

POST 10Original post

Seems like something is missing in your set up. No way FabSpeeds simply sound OEM. My Fister Ds strike the perfect balance: Loud and aggressive when I want, and fairly unobtrusive if I stay our of the throttle. I get many compliments, and the price was right!

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 12847020

Until they outlaw Harleys and other stupidly loud motorcycles, I think Tubis should be spared the chopping block. I _LOVED_ my Tubi mufflers - the Fisters I have now are nearly as good, but they don't have the same F1-esque yowl near redline that make the Tubis so unique. OP, the good news is that you can, if you want to, sell your Fabspeeds and buy some Fisters, plus have some cash in your pocket, so that might be worth a try. If I were not a cheap bastard, I would have absolutely purchased a new set of Tubis.

I think mine are an earlier version as well. It sounds like a freakin' race car above 4k RPMs.

POST 14Original post

I put a set of Fabspeed's on in June and I think they're very civilized - just a bit more rumble below 3500 rpms. Screams like a banshee as you get closer to redline. I also felt like the sound morphed a bit during that first 500 miles or so - for the better. R

POST 15Original post

If you think your maxflow is too quiet, may be you should try supercup. I have it and it is ridiculous 996 Porsche 911 Carrera - Fabspeed Supercup Exhaust - YouTube

POST 16Original post

I installed Porsche 996 Carrera Fabspeed Maxflo Performance Exhaust System on my 04 Tip Carrera. Was disappointed on the sound. Sold them for a song and installed Fister D. Maybe the Tip trans doesn't bring out the beauty.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm thinking I may need to stop being cheap and bite the bullet on the tubis or try adding the bypass pipes? I'll have to look into that because I thought the bypass pipes were used in place of the mufflers? If that's the case ill probably not go that route. A few sound clips I heard were just a little too raw sounding for me.

POST 18Original post

I saw a 996 drive by yesterday with cat & muffler deletes, it was LOUD, aka perfect.

POST 19Original post

Tubis are perfect, imo I have them and find myself driving with a window open just to hear them I have a fresh set of ceramic coated, never installed Fisters if your interested

Leaning that way myself... Going to see how ambitious my friend and I want to get with either putting in 200 cel cats or just a test pipe.

POST 21Original post

I had tubis for a brief time and opted to keep my Mille miglias, which are louder and have a deeper tone to them. I am considering the M&M sport from fvd motorsports.

POST 23Original post

x2 on the supercup suggestion if you want loud!!! I love mine!

I don't think it's because of your Tip. I have Stage III Fister's on my Tip 996 and it makes plenty of noise at WOT.

POST 26Original post

Add me to the list of those happy with the Gundo hack. I removed the mufflers, brought them to a local exhaust specialist, paid $100, and reinstalled. The 2" pipes are just what I hoped for: civilized when cruising and loud when on the gas. I have a pair of bypass pipes, and they were too much for me. Will sell for $75 plus shipping. Send PM if interested.

POST 27Original post

Not to resurrect a dead thread, but I also think the Fabspeed are too quiet. Why? I bought my car a little over two weeks ago and the first things on my list were suspension and exhaust. I ended up buying some Fister Stage 3 Fabspeed mufflers….to my surprise when I got the car on a lift, it had Fabspeed MaxFlos on it…I thought they were stock as I never looked under the car, I had no reason to, it was quiet af.

I bought a 996 a few weeks ago with Fabspeed Maxflows on it and thought the same thing! too quiet. Then i got a friend to do some drive bys, it's louder than you think from outside the car.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 17927925

i bought my car a year ago, already 8,000 driven miles since. To my surprise fabspeed max flows. They sound good while on the gas, have been on a couple of drives with other Porsche guys and they said that they can hear them when I get on them, they also saved about 20 lbs in weight reduction. Anyway I bought the fabspeed catless x pipe from Tex Squirrel 🐿 , now the car really sings, even thats its cold I just put on a jacket and drive it with the window down. Im like a kid today on Christmas cant wait so I can go to my friends house and we are going to put soul headers that I bought from him. I heard a car with the full fabspeed set up and it sounded great to me. Anyway my friend gave me a good deal on the souls so thats great for me. The muffler bypass is not for me. Now this friend has a hooker exhaust and that one is loud. I believe hes going to sell it. Anyone let me know if interested in the hooker muffler exhaust. I believe he also has 200 cell cats thats hes also going to sell.

POST 30Original post

When I bought my car it had muffler delete only and the sound was great but then I went FabSpeed’s xpipe and 200 cell cats muffler delete and the it sounds AWESOME but it is aggressive on anything above idle and I love it !!!! I did get a power bump with the fabspeed noticed it right away

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 17929080

after we put the xpipe two weeks ago, I came home and had a huge grin 😁 on my face, definitely butt dyno I felt the xtra right away. Sound makes you keep the revs past 4,000, Im real curious what the soul headers are going to add to the symphony!!!!
