So far running into programming issues to get the new ecu programmed, the immobilizer chip that is internal might be faulty.

Took my 50k new-to-me 2010 987.2 to a well regarded porsche specialist mechanic (recco from this forum, and 4.9 rating on google w 100+ reviews) to do a level 1 ECU tune. He fried the ECU, ordered another at his expense (had to wait a week for shipping) and just sent me this message for ECU #2 install/programming: “Just wanted to give you an update as promised. So far running into programming issues to get the new ecu programmed, the immobilizer chip that is internal might be faulty. Working thru it still, worst case scenario I will be getting another dme asap. Will update you again tomorow as I will be continuing for a bit tonight” Any constructive thoughts to troubleshoot? (“get a new mechanic” of course is #1 on my list, but the car isn't drivable until he programs it.)

Was just told that the original ECU experienced a fried circuit board when he flashed it, and that the 2nd ECU came w an immobilizer chip that wasnt wiped clean/distributer couldnt provide original VIN so he could overwrite it. So we’re now waiting for 3rd ECU w clean immobilizer chip. He said he’s using “ porsche programming software” for the initial ECU programming, but doesnt have the tool to reprogram the immobilizer. He said its a Bosch ME 7.8.2 ECU that was only Used for 2009/2010 and is relatively hard to source. all sounds reasonable, and he sounds as frustrated as i am. But not sure if this is “**** happens” or incompetence. i didnt get to ask what flash software he uses, though i know its not COBB .

If he's bench flashing with a power supply it's possible the leads were connected to the wrong pins. Hard to say. There's always risk when flashing an ECU. I haven't played with Porsche immobilizers but I have on other cars and it ranges from easy to a real PITA. All sounds reasonable though.
