Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Aerkuld, i think it's the window regulator that i need also, apparently the cables get stretched out so the window doesn't drop down the fill 5/16ths that it is supposed to.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I ordered a new one last week - I think it worked out about $180 delivered!
I JUST BOUGHT A 99 996 AND THE PASSENGER WINDOW, MOVES DOWN JUST A LITTLE WHEN YOU PULL THE HANDLE BUT NOT THE 1/4 INCH THAT THE DRIVERS DOES, THUS THE PASSENGER WINDOW CATCHES ON THE WEATHERSTRIP. WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR THE WINDOW HANGS UP ON THE WEATHERSTRIP AND DOESN'T SEAL. I ASSUME THAT I NEED TO GET INTO THE DOOR, HOW DO I ADJUST IT SO THAT IT DROPS THE 1/4 INCH AND SHOULD WORK FINE? Try "retraining" your window. Lower the window completely and continue to hold the window switch down for 10 - 15 seconds after the window is lowered. Raise the window and continue to hold the window switch up for 10 - 15 seconds after the window is completely raised. You may need to do this procedure twice to "retrain" the window.
rick, thanks for your post, i tried the retraining but the window still drops less than an 1/8 of an inch when you lift the handle, not enough to clear the weatherstrip either to open correctly or close without hanging up and staying pushed open when the door is completely shut. any other things i could try or maybe i need to pull the door apart. john skalet
Since you mentioned it I notice my passenger window does something similar. While it moves down far enough that it doesn't hang up on the weatherstrip it definitely doesn't move down as far as the driver's side window. If you find a solution please post it!
If it's a window regulator, they aren't cheap, maybe about $500 installed.

After investigating this further I have come to the conclusion that my car needs a new regulator. I ordered a new one last week - I think it worked out about $180 delivered!
I hope to have time to fit it next weekend which should cure the problem. I'll take a look at the old one when I get it out and see if there is anyway to remove the slack.
I'll keep you posted...
Aerkuld, i think it's the window regulator that i need also, apparently the cables get stretched out so the window doesn't drop down the fill 5/16ths that it is supposed to. would you tell me where you got one for $180.00?? thanks, john skalet
UPDATE:
I finally got the new regulator mechanism so last night I removed the old one and put in the new one and everythng works perfectly! It was obvious when I got the old assembly out and compared it to the new one that the difference in cable length was significant judging by the length that the compensation spring had extended to on the old one.
It took me a little over two hours working at a fairly relaxed pace to complete the job. However, I did spend ages carefully peeling the adhesive between the foam door liner and the door so that I could stick it back neatly afterwards. Its a pretty easy job as long as you mark the position of the glass in the clamps and the regulator mountings so that you can get everything back in the same position. Well worth the time in my opinion.
This should definitely be written up in Wayne's Boxster/996 - 101 projects book, I suspect it will be quite a common task.
mark, (aerkuld) rec'd my new window regulator and hope that you will give me some tips on how to remove the door panel without damaging it and tips on installing the new regulator. thanks john, i hope i'm remembering correctly that it is mark.
