Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've recently noticed some strange markings on both of my rear alloy wheels - it looks a bit like they are stained with brake dust but it is permanent. Strange that it's happened on both wheels at around the same time, but not the fronts. I'm wondering if a previous owner had a poor repair job done on them... Has anyone seen this type of markings on their wheel before, and any thoughts as to whether they can be refurbed (by a mobile repairer, or are they just not worth it - I live in deepest darkest south London you see and I've never been able to find a reputable refurber in the area)?

That marking looks like the beginnings of corrosion under the clear coat on the rim. (I'm guessing from the pic that the wheels are a Carrera Sport style with painted spokes and a 'diamond-turned', clear-coated rim)? The only way to remove this is to have the wheels stripped, the rim skimmed by a couple of thou' on an appropriate wheel lathe and the whole lot re-powder-coated. For great service and the very best results, I can't recommend Chris Weaver at Exel Wheels highly enough. POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes they are Carrera Sport, in (I think) silver. That was what I feared but thanks for the tip on Exel, I've not heard of them before but sounds convenient that they will come to you and take them away and do a proper job, so I'll give them a go
