Hello all,
I recently picked up a
2007 Cayman S
with
Porsche
Sport Exhaust installed OEM.
I was really excited about finding a model with this option (as it is incredibly expensive), but I'm quickly finding that it isn't as loud as I thought it would be, especially at low-RPM. It doesn't really sound too special until it gets to above 5k RPM with the sport exhaust button on. Otherwise, it sounds pretty much like the standard stock exhaust.
This brings me to my 2 questions...
1. What EXACTLY does the sport exhaust button do (not exactly sure how the electronic Vacuum Actuators work, or if it will be ruined by changing the exhaust piping)? I am thinking of doing a muffler/resonator delete, but I would ideally like to leave the functionality of the sport exhaust button intact, and still make a difference in sound. Would I be able to incorporate this into a muffler/resonator delete? I don't want to delete the cats, however.
2. Would a muffler/resonator delete be a waste? If so, what are good bang-for-buck aftermarket options? I don't care much for increasing power/performance, but I certainly wouldn't complain about it. Open to anything reasonably priced as long as the cabin drone isn't utterly unbearable, and it passes smog.
Thank you for any advice!
Cheers
**EDIT: I saw the thread about removing
PSE
from a
981 Cayman
GTS
, but not too many helpful comments. Not willing to drop $6k on a compatible Akrapovic exhaust.
You could try the
Carnewal
modified exhaust. My main suggestion would be catless headers, but I see you live in CA.
Hello all,
Hopefully someone will have some sort of insight or curiosity about this also... I haven't found anyone do anything quite like this in my search, but I was wondering if it's at all possible to use the
PSE
functionality to create some sort of muffler bypass route for the exhaust. As in, with
PSE
Off, everything will be nice and quiet. But with
PSE
On, instead diverting the flow around the muffler/secondary cat completely.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like turning the
PSE
On now already directs the flow through a different route in the exhaust, so I'm guessing that you could mess with the piping a bit and get this around the muffler.
Thoughts? Do I sound like a total idiot? Or is this something people might be interested in hearing?
I think this setup from Fabspeed is what you're looking for -- and I believe this is compatible with 987.1 based on other sites where I've found it for sale ...
Fabspeed Porsche 987.2 Boxster / Cayman, Cayman R, Spyder Valved Exhaust System (2009-2012)

I have a
987.1
with
PSE
. I am ready to install 200 cell headers, but the question I have is should I have an exhaust shop remove the secondary cats attached to the
PSE
muffler?
I want to maximize exhaust sound with valves open as much as possible without introducing drone with
PSE
off at cruising speeds, where the engine is turning at 2-3K RPM. Didn't find many posts on people adding 200 cell headers and removing secondary cats on the
987.1
. I just want to know if that will introduce drone.
Hey man, I am new to the forum but saw your post of the headers and exhaust. I’m local to Georgia and would love to get in touch with you about them.
for some reason it will not let me reply to the marketplace posts yet so figured I could maybe get you here. Thank you
