My car when I purchase had fitted a design tek supreme mufflers, but looking under it, the exhaust manifold needs replacement.

My mechanic said they fitted perfectly with no issues.

I fitted these to my 997.1 and the car sounded throatier but it wasn't a huge change.

I fitted Toyo sport manifolds to my 996 a couple of years ago.

Should I change just the exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold + cats ?

If you do change the manifold, and you DIY, then you will need access to a stormski jig to remove the bolts which will break off and remain in the head.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I am looking for recomendation on exhaust manifold? My car when I purchase had fitted a design tek supreme mufflers, but looking under it, the exhaust manifold needs replacement. Should I change just the exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold + cats ?
I was looking the top gear or design tek but there is quite variety on opinions around it. Should I fit original ones? Any help will be appreciated.

I have a pair of new stainless steel manifolds which came as spares with my 997, I doubt i will ever fit them.
Manifolds do have a big impact to the exhaust sound of our cars(!) I've fitted at least four different sets of manifolds and have opted for factory manifolds mainly due to the fact I daily my car all year and don't need the extra drama/excitement of tubular manifolds. Others feel the car is way too tame and barely exists on the factory manifolds...
I do have a lightly used pair of the ~£550 DesignTek manifolds that I fitted for a while and need to get round to selling, if you were interested and wanted to make an offer.
Thanks demon, that’s interesting to read, do they make the car more louder using any non factory manifolds? I’ll like the current sound I have and don’t want to have something to loud.
Definitely louder and a different note: overall lighter, thinner material + equal length design + the relatively acuteness of bends/angles on some manifolds to achieve that... it will all contribute to a different sound to stock, particularly at higher rpm, but will be present from idle
It can still sometimes be worth buying a pair of used factory manifolds from a US ebay listing or similar if the car was in a 'dry' state, etc
I assume you've come across these?

I fitted these to my 997.1 and the car sounded throatier but it wasn't a huge change.
Edited to add - I should add my 997.1 was a 3.6 non S so had the smaller bore exhaust, which I assume was smaller all the way through? My car did sound different once the Toyo was fitted, not louder just throatier and at lower revs.
I fitted Toyo sport manifolds to my 996 a couple of years ago. Good quality and no issues what so ever. I didn't notice any change in exhaust volume/sound.
100% agreed that they're really cheap compared to the other better known makes. A few folk on here have fitted them to 996s. I've not handled the other makes but these ones are actually really pretty solid feeling. I'm sure I read somewhere they're actually Chinese made copies of the 996 X50 manifolds. My mechanic said they fitted perfectly with no issues.
