Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Check brackets for rust, just take any off and powder coat or plate as required.
Leading evidence: 'Check brackets' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check brackets' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My tech advises this will likely morph into an engine out job to cut off and replace oil lines etc etc.

Does anything need to be change on the engine mapping?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Folks,
New member here (UK-based) to seek some advice and opinions.
My 2003, 120k mile 996TT has hairline cracks in both turbo housings. They are still boosting but sooner rather than later they are going to need replacing.
My tech advises this will likely morph into an engine out job to cut off and replace oil lines etc etc.
What I'm looking for is recommendations regarding what to improve/replace as part of the overall work, either to enhance or just as preventative maintenance.
The car is a keeper (already owned it 17 years) so I want any changes to last. I'd like a little more power too, nothing crazy, the car is not tracked.
Are K16 hybrids the way to go?
Indications of overall cost and also UK parts suppliers would be appreciated. I'm likely to entrust my usual tech with the work.
I also have the same question but with regard to an overall suspension refresh... not sure if this is needed or worth it at this stage though.
If the engines coming out then the glued coolant fittings are an obvious one, welding or pinning is the decision, although at 120k I wouldn't be surprised if you'd had one or two pop already. Also there are a lot of normally buried coolant pipes, and small bore vac pipes and fittings that are worth changing. New o rings on the oil cooler. New o rings on the aluminium coolant pipes.
There are also a few check valves and the brake booster venturi. Oil pressure sender if not done recently.
Check clutch out, and maybe a new rear main seal while accessible.
Cost wise depends if your turbos can be reconditioned depending on housing condition, new std are around 1.5k each. You'll probably need new oil catch tanks too. The 6 pipes are expensive now probably 1.2k for those. Oil tanks I think around 300 each. Also depends if the manifold bolts come out of the head, not sure if you can get the turbos off and leave them be.
If you can find some secondhand good turbos that would help.
I've seen this job cost 10-15k at an OPC but can be done for much less also.
Thanks Mac996t, exactly the sort of post I was hoping for. Turbos housings are scrap I'm told.
I'm hoping some reconditioned modified turbos crop up, it's probably time to start stockpiling parts.
Will mostly be Ren works/Porschacare (Herts) doing the work.
Also coolant header tank if not previously done, think it's actually quite cheap for our car, also waterpump again if not done within last 40k or 10 years or so!
And over engine brake pipe if crusty
Turbo's around £3-5000 - Depending on the lines.
Suspension £1500-2500+ - Depending on spec.
I did all the same as you plus Ohlins and cost £15,000 in parts only.
Turbochargers are not crazy money, but it's all the "while you're in there" stuff that will quickly pile up (as Mac996t already comprehensively outline above)
To be honest, a lot of it makes sense as dropping the engine is something you don't want to do too often.

in the US about tuning, he will be able to recommend a course of action tailored to your requirements, budget etc. The tuning can be done remotely, and your local garage will be able install parts.
Regarding the suspension, if you have the cash and it needs to be done - go for it! It will be like a new car
Turbo's themselves are only part of the story really though, check valves, lines and fittings will cost another £1000. If the OP's turbos are split the chances of the lines coming undone are pretty low.
Do the alternator regulator, only £30.
