Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace every year' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cam deviation' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I had bank 1 solenoid replaced my mechanic checked mine out and said they were fine.

You need to check your cam deviation, and check the oil filter for dark brown plastic.

Not sure what symptoms they give other than that, looks like engines run just fine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With quite a lot of 996.1 cars now going past the 100k mark just wondering how many owners have had the wear pads changed as at this kind of miles they must be wearing pretty thin and could turn into a nightmare if one breaks up. I'm on 119k and thinking of having a look at mine whilst i have it in pieces has anyone changed them without dropping the engine?
i wouldn't be able to resist having a look if i had the engine out, be interesting to see what kind of wear you have, apparently it's the bottom pad that wears the most so looking at the top one can give a false impression of how bad they are.
It's an engine out job though. You need to check your cam deviation, and check the oil filter for dark brown plastic. Many will need doing. Not sure what symptoms they give other than that, looks like engines run just fine.
I had my engine rebuilt at 137k miles / 222k km, and the pads were well due for replacement. As it's an engine out job, I would also look at other "while-in-there" items, like possibly lifters, variocam solenoids, etc.
My deviation is well within tolerance with just under 150k on the clock.
My thoughts are that a faulty tensioner causing chain slap at start up would be the most likely cause of wear?
My thoughts are that because the valves operate hydraulically with engine oil and where they are situated its possible for them to be oil starved , in an engine either low on oil or one that has been tracked or driven hard on numerous occasions , this may explain how some wear more than others with similar miles.
