It works fine manually using the key in the door, and the alarm/immob disarms with the key in the ignition.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’ve had my CSR/Hartech 996.1 for about for about four years now, and love it to bits. It’s had some minor issues since I bought it. Nothing significant, but I’m just working through a couple of them. One of them is that the remote central locking doesn’t work. It works fine manually using the key in the door, and the alarm/immob disarms with the key in the ignition. Both keys were tested and are transmitting. So I assumed that they had stopped talking to the car, and just needed a new key and coding… I booked it in to my local OPC (interestingly, they had the best price), and after about an hour I was told that the car wasn’t accepting the new key. They said that it wasn’t particularly unusual on an older car and they would try again. The second attempt was unsuccessful, too. The service chap was out of ideas and said to book it in next month, leave it with them, and they would try again. I’m not holding out much hope… I know 996’s have lots of key/alarm issues, but I can’t find any info on what to do when they won’t accept coding a new key. All ideas gratefully received. As an aside, I believe about ten years ago the DME somehow got damaged. RPM Technik replaced it with a replacement unit from one of their 996’s. Along with the alarm control module. But the previous owner says the remote central locking was working fine after that. I just wonder, with the change of alarm module, whether it’s now hit the maximum number of keys (5?)? But wouldn’t PIWIS tell them that when they were trying to add additional keys…? BTW, it’s an early 1997 C2.

Where are you? You need an alarm / fob specialist who can go deeper than Porsche most likely It does sound a bit suspicious about the alarm module being replaced, but no reason that should matter once it’s programmed for the fobs Pixelsfixed is in east Kilbride and my go to for anything like this - if that’s too far might still be worth getting in touch with him and seeing if he can offer any of his experience ….

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Opposite ends of the country, unfortunately; I’m in Kent. I’m a bit nervous of taking out the alarm module and sending it off. Don’t want to end up in a situation where the alarm module, DME and keys are all not talking to each other. Would feel a lot more comfortable with a specialist in these things to have the car in front of them.
