Fixed buckets as well, so you'd need a Comfort spec car to access and use the rear.

It was 450bhp but it was the torque that was most impressive, I actually think a big displacement engine on standard gearing would suit my driving style better.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just an observation really…there is plenty of choice for 997 RS, and 4.0 RS but I can’t see a single 997.1 GT3 for sale. Are they all hiding somewhere ?
Welcome to autumn, I guess!
Sellers probably surmising that the market for these will not weaken in 2022, so taking them off the market until spring.
Meanwhile some people are still using them. I did 400 miles in mine in 24 hours last weekend, going to/from/around a race track.
I noticed this while sorting my insurance renewal a week or 2 ago. I usually look at what's for sale to help guide me on what "market value" to give insurers, but there are/were none for sale despite as OP said, lots of RS's and 7.2's on the market. It's interesting though. I think current 997.1 owners like me are possibly too busy using the things as opposed to RS owners that might be more 'invested' in their purchases. Plus the global production numbers were fairly small too e.g. 2378 997.1 GT3s compared to 6300 991.1 GT3s and 9500 991.2 GT3s according to this site

This one seems to have been on sale a while.
Overpriced. £110k for a red 2007 997.1 GT3 with 8.5k miles. That's 997.2 GT3 money.
The value is in the low mileage, so you'd lose the value driving it.
You'd have to really want a red 997.1 to pay that price.

I reckon it’s a result of the recent Evo magazine

The 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 is the
only
car I'd upgrade to from my 997.1 GT3.
However, it is such a huge leap in price - roughly £100k delta - that it'd need to be a perfect car and then, perhaps, I'd be a little less relaxed about enjoying it. Certainly, it'd have to be from a very good, trusted dealer.
The white & weissgold car that JZM advertised last week sold instantly. By the time I'd called (about this time of morning) they'd already had 8 other enquiries.
So, in fact, the only way for me to get into one of those is to sell my car first and be ready to move. Which then brings the risk of not finding a car and missing out on track days.
I know there are other 997.1 GT3 owners in a similar situation, they would only sell to upgrade to a Gen 1 or 2 RS. Nothing later really ticks the boxes for them.

Same/similar boat - it's literally the only exchange that would appeal - although I'm unlikely to ever buy a 7.2 for similar reasons stated, that I'd just never use it as it would be too precious. If I sold my GT3 and then bought an RS, I'd probably end up buying a regular GT3 again just to use for TDs, which would kind of defeat the purpose of the upgrade...
So what I'm trying to say to you Digga is, there's no point selling your car first as you'll only regret it - just treat yourself to an additional garage space hogging RS instead

Same here. I bought my .1 GT3 7 years ago when my ideal car was an RS, but simply couldn’t find one.
Clubsport and in RS Orange means that a .2 would have to be equally special colour and options wise to justify the delta.

Something else occurs to me too about 997.1 GT3's. They've been a bit 'stuck' price wise for some time.
The previous generation, the 996 (both Gen 1 and 2) does not really command the kudos and value they deserve. The value of the cars, considering their qualities and also the fact they were the OG GT3 seems, to my mind, slightly soft, when compared, for example to BMW E30 M3's. This also undermines the 997 values.
Similarly, the woes of the 991 engines, combined with their being 'better but less involving' (IYSWIM) than prior cars affects
their
values. So there's a compression effect too.
However, you're now seeing good 996 Clubsports pushing up in price and I think the notional ceiling of 991 GT3 values is in the process of being tested. The notion that an older car cannot be valued higher is easily disproved in numerous prior examples.

Yes. Since I bought mine about 3 years ago.
Thinking of selling, so that should see values rocket thereafter...
Im planning on emigrating around April , May next year. So mine will be up for sale soon. I have mine for 9 years and its the most fabulous car i,ve owned. I am the second owner 41,000. Hopefully the prices stay firm for a while.
This will be an interesting one to follow:

Mileage is at a nice place where you can use without wincing. Considering the prices higher mile GTS’s go for I’ll be very curious where this ends up, could be a hell of a bargain for a usable toy.

What do we reckon it's worth? Would love a useable 997.1 to put rear seats into and use with the wife and son but the cage is in the way on that one sadly!

Fixed buckets as well, so you'd need a Comfort spec car to access and use the rear.

Was £59k when I looked this morning. Now seems to be BIN for £69k so no point putting a bid in...! Doesn't strike me as bad value at £69k although it has a large gap in the service history looking at it.

A month or so back, my go-to in-car listening was Sam Moore's Car Chat podcast. Really enjoyed a lot of them, as he's got decent guests and has a nice way with them, where he manages to get some good personalities across without dominating the thing himself.
Anyway, he always finished with the same bunch of questions, two of which are, money-no-object 5-car garage, and one car plus a £500 banger on the side.
The 997 GT3 in general, and conspicuously the 997.2 GT3 RS specifically make a frequent appearance. They are, it seems, to people who know and love cars, very much at the forefront of consciousness.

Oh I’m all too aware as to just exactly what they are, it’s more the vendor’s choice of words to describe them that concerns me ...
It's more this statement I find a little strange "The drive is amazing and with comfort mode is as comfortable as my Macan.", maybe that's just a bit of artistic license perhaps. I would never describe a GT3 as having suspension as comfortable as a Macan, unless I'd got into my Macan and driven it down the road by mistake and thought "oh FFS, why do I KEEP DOING THAT, I really need to get into the GT3 next time..."

Yes that’s the one, it appeared in most of the lists in a number of different models from 997.1 GT3 to the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, if it had been a singular model it would have come higher than 3rd.

I took a mate out in my car last year. The very first thing he remarked on was how well it rode. At the time this was a stock, standard 997.1 GT3 on standard (i.e. mostly dire) British roads. We hit a mix of just about everything, A, B and motorway roads.
His comment is not without merit, as his day job was with JLR, in development. He'd had access, at various points, to everything they've produced for the last 25 years.

I've had similar comments too, but I still find it a little odd to say the car is "as comfortable" as a Macan because it isn't, and there's nothing to suggest that was meant tongue in cheek. No big deal though, just thought it was an odd thing to read in a GT3 ad

Yes, I'm with you.
I guess not everyone (even owners) shares the same obsession with these cars to the point where they know (or care) what they have beneath them. It's probably just been one of many itches that got scratched, the owner had some fun on track, and now the novelty has worn off.
I'm also slightly uncomfortable at the notion of how people can market these cars with a service that appears to be overdue (by quite some margin), wheels that need refurbishing, brakes that need replacing, and an interior that hasn't even had a quick once-over with a Hoover.. and that's just the detail that can be gleaned from the ad. I guess this is all reflected in the price though. You pays your money...
This looks a nice example:

lets not be too quick to judge unless of course those that are poo pooing the car have spoken to the vendor

So, having seen the car, are any of the details I gleaned solely from the advertisement incorrect? Apologies, if so. I'm sure the vendor is a lovely guy by the way, and I don't believe I ever indicated otherwise.
I thought you'd bought one some time ago?

I’ve not seen anyone, least of all myself, being too quick to judge the car or indeed the vendor, though the fact remains, the description of the brakes on the car is a misrepresentation. The calipers are indeed those fitted to the PCCB equipped cars, the discs however are not ceramic items, but on the face of it, the vendor’s description in his advert could be construed as suggesting the car has “ceramic brakes”, and that’s clearly not accurate.

The ceramic discs might be boxed up and included in the price? In which case the car has ceramic brakes, just not fitted at the moment.
Or the owner doesn't know or care which exact discs are on his car. A chat with the owner would soon clarify; I think it's a stretch to call it misrepresentation.
If I was buying a 997, ceramic brakes would turn me off. Who wants them anyway?

Who wouldn’t? Sell them for £££‘S profit and stick some steels on if it bothers you. The CCB setup on mine is hands down the best braking setup of any car I have owned and one of my favourite things about the car. Don’t get me wrong I’m scared to death of damaging them, but if it haunts me that much I’ll stick them in a box and buy the cheap steel alternative. It’s win win

The bolded bit is why I think of them as being a yoke around the car's neck.
Insane replacement costs compared to steels.
The lack of brake dust would be nice though...

You may well be right, they could well be boxed up and included in sale, so why not state that in the advert, rather than leave your advert open to accusations of misrepresentation .. ??
You seem keen to defend the vendor’s honour, how about you ring/email him and confirm your theory
Or are just posturing for the sake of it

The bolded bit is why I think of them as being a yoke around the car's neck.
Insane replacement costs compared to steels.
The lack of brake dust would be nice though...
I totally understand your reasoning, but saying a CCB car would put you off makes no sense. Second hand they will fetch you far more than a set of two piece steels so it’s cash in the pocket against a steel car at the very least.
No brake dust plus no surface rust after cleaning are nice side effects too. I genuinely had every intent to immediately remove and stick on steels, but it’s a tough decision to make when they are just so good.

Ah, as I thought, just posturing then

I’d quite like one day to test, back to back, but I only did a couple of track days with the PCCBs on and would agree they are hugely powerful. I soon swapped out to Alcon steels and subjectively they seemed to have more feel on trail braking, but that could easily be me getting more confident all round.
Definitely less dust though.

i have since the ad went up and he's straight as they come. i wished him well on the sale and having seen the car in the flesh, anyone seriously in the market should go see it
So, having seen the car, are any of the details I gleaned solely from the advertisement incorrect? Apologies, if so. I'm sure the vendor is a lovely guy by the way, and I don't believe I ever indicated otherwise.
I thought you'd bought one some time ago?
Me too. Maybe he fancied a change and swapped it for this one

Hopefully that doesn't follow suit here.
I think it has begun already. 997.2 RS is tracking very similar to a 991.2 RS on price now.
Anyway, they need using.

Forgot about that, I’ve been out of warranty for about 10 years lol. I’m surprised there is no cover at all though, otherwise what’s the benefit for the buyer to purchase from a main dealer at (generally) higher price than say privately. Maybe there’s a nominal 3 months given or something

So you can guarantee you get a manky front spoiler
... not sure taking a picture of a single wheel with a big chunk of the finish missing is smart marketing either. The missing chunk shows a very thick paint finish too.
After studying the pics more closely, it really does look like a ‘zero prep’ car doesn’t it. Maybe a vacuum and quick wash. Straight in straight out, must be a nice margin in that for them
ETA I wonder if non-Clubsport cars have a lower number of owners on average

Decent roll of gorilla tape will fix that.
BTW don’t try this if you’re going to the ‘Ring. Twice I had bits of it trailing when I got back into the pits. I can only think this is the kerbs as Wipperman. Interesting experiment I suppose.

funnily i just had call from swindon opc who sold me mine asking if i might be interested in a gt4 rs as id had a sniff around one last time i was there a few months ago. but given the black one above is similar to mine without ceramics and a few more miles id be surprised if their bid was in the seventies
a few years back that black one would have been pushing 90k

I bought it from them originally and now having sold through them, have seen both sides of the deal. Would not hesitate to recommend them based not only on my own experience, but also that of a few others who I know have bought and/or sold through them.
Interesting to see how Prost found them, but I hope he feels similarly.

The whole experience was completely pain free. I'm an anomaly I understand, I hate buying from garages and of the four 911s I've had this was the first that was bought from a trader.
Everyone at JZM were very pleasant to deal with, the facility is undoubtably very impressive and seeing as it was a SOR deal (something I implicitly distrust) I did my due diligence in looking through their company accounts etc.
The key thing for me was actually getting to speak to Mr Digga on the phone about the car-had that not have been possible I probably wouldn't have ended up buying the car. Or at least, I wouldn't have put a deposit on the car and bought a one way train ticket!
Once that call was made, I made an offer within 5 mins, had it accepted within a couple of hours and paid a deposit under the proviso I would simply come down and get it.
So maybe it was easy money for JZM, apart from speaking to Digga, I insisted on a video call with the car on a ramp as these GT3s have zero rust protection underneath and I looked at a couple over the summer that were rotten and needed large amounts spending on them.
Added to the condition, Digga has carried out some absolutely chef's kiss mods that I would have done myself so although some GT3s that have been modded can hang around as the market doesn't always like them, for me it was a no brainer.
An easy sale as said? Probably, putting a modded track toy up for sale in October shouldn't ever work but for me and Digga it all worked out perfectly.
I think the ad went live on Thursday and I had a salesman's number in my phone from a failed purchase in the summer at JZM (for which there very much was a reason)-I think I text him at 8pm and by the Friday video calls were being made and by Saturday I was buying it.
Was the car prepped 100%? Not exactly, a few very minor things that if I were selling I would have had done (I absolutely do not hold this against Digga by the way-he wasn't selling JZM were)-I had the decals removed (which they did for free) with left the very tired looking shark fins looking a mess-for the pittance they cost and the 20 mins they take to fit I'd have slapped a pair on. A wheel is curbed, a little bit of galvanic corrosion on the bonnet latch... minor, minor things. I'm getting the wheels repainted so the curb/chip doesn't matter but it probably should have been mentioned (I'd have likely said leave it anyway).
There's a large box of spare parts that I'm expected to ship to myself, again, for the £80 of a pallet shipment or whatever if I were the dealer I'd have said I'd cover as you can't get them in the car. Some would think different I guess.
But then, I did a deal on the car-for all I know to get the deal done JZM took some out of their end and I got the car at a price where I don't mind really and hopefully Digga feels the same. Or maybe even better, he got JZM to deal with a renowned tyre kicker and deal hunter! And the car isn't sat in storage all winter waiting for a buyer keeping him in limbo whilst window shopping.
But that's just the buying process, the car is absolutely
and for that I have to give massive thanks to Digga for looking after it so well. It's such a different feeling GT3 from the old Manthey 3.9 and I can't wait to start getting into it and on track. The kids love it, the wife may even go in it with a bit of luck!
(I hope I don't sound negative on the buying process, I'm massively happy and there was nothing really to sour the experience but folk asked and I think I've been completely honest-it is a lovely set up they have there and they seem to be doing extremely well so they must be doing something right).

That’s good to know, thanks for replying… both Digga and Prost.
My gen 2 (white one) has been there for a few weeks, priced competitively.
They had a serious buyer interested but it didn’t proceed so I was keen to understand how they dealt with the sale from your point of view.
Thanks
I hope you enjoy it.

No problem and I fully intend to! I wouldn't get disheartened, the market seems quite flat at the moment (isn't it always going into Autumn?) but you only need one buyer and
that
is one lovely car!
When you see what a 997.2 RS goes for you could consider a .2 GT3 a bit of a bargain-just as the .1s are too.
Yes, that rear wheel is very annoying; if you look, it s not kerbed (there is no direction to the mark) it was some idiot tyre fitter s carelessness. (Avoid the tyre place on Power Station Road in Rugeley.)
I think the market is always a bit stronger for Clubsport cars, but I think all 997 GT s will always sell, given time.
ETA the variable in terms of time is one reason why I guess they justify the fee.

IMHE the best clutch is the 4.0 RS with the lightweight flywheel. The 3.8 is different and not as easy/nice to heel and toe.
The 997.2 3.8 GT3 RS does have a lovely increase in front end grip/composure, with the slightly wider tyres and track. They are fetching strong money in the UK now. Prices seemed to pause in the £170-190k for a while, but a few seem now to have pushed through the £200k mark.
Obviously the 4.0 RS has been
way
above that for ages. I have never driven one, but had the pleasure of riding pax on track and yes, there really is something special about them. There are some very, very special parts, the sum of which exceeds them.
The week following pick up I was due to drop the black wheels off to be sprayed silver but the glass black is actually growing on me. I do feel however, that to complete the look the black wheels need the RS black rear wing and good luck finding one of those!
ChatGPT is helping me explore some other options. It looks like the car originally wore basalt black painted centre wheels but I’m not a fan of the two tone wheel on a standard GT3 (RS excepted).
Digga said:
FWIW I think you can buy non OEM rear deck lids with the RS spoiler.
Yes, some of the Eastern European ones for about £3k (or god forbid Chinesium ones for even less), the problem being you don’t know the quality until it’s landed and if it’s naff, well it’s money down the drain.
I had the Cup one on my 996 and even that was a bit of a waffy thing compared to the solid oem version.

My greatest regret is terms of selling cars is my 997.2RS. I had no space at the time and had another new car coming in ,so I let it go. It was a superb car. ( My greatest regret on the buy side was in 1996 when I was offered a 300SL Gullwing for $220k.) Stupid decisions, both of them.

Hmmm, I actually found my 3.9 a touch too frantic combined with the shortened final drive. I don’t have the taller sixth but the car wasn’t really used for long motorway slogs so it never bothered me even driving into Europe.
It was 450bhp but it was the torque that was most impressive, I actually think a big displacement engine on standard gearing would suit my driving style better.
And justifying a 4.0 conversion is easier surely?!
