Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was wondering if the automatic transmission on the 996 are pretty strong or if anyone knew of any issues with them... I might be looking to get a 2000-2002 sometime this year and it has to be an automatic car... and Im just trying to do a bit of research for when the time comes.

POST 2Original post

I've heard of no chronic issues with the Porsche automatic transmission.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 4Original post

My mechanic wants to get an auto tranny 996, which says allot for the it.

POST 5Original post

For what it is worth, I have a 2003 996 with tiptronic and have put over 43,000HARD miles on the clock and run the ever-loving shi! out of it and have ZERO issues with RMS or any other types of leaks.

POST 6Original post

I use my '99 996 with 42K miles as a daily driver. I got it because I have a five mile commute to work in traffic. There is one major problem with it. I have to pretend it is a manual with my hand cupped over the gear select lever when I am at a stop light next to another auto enthusiast lest they think I am less a man I have had no RMS issues and have owned the care since 12k miles.

POST 7Original post

on the 99-01 trannys i've seen the pan gaskets leak, 3rd gear clutch packs worn out causing the transmission to slip and the torque converter seal (in the torque converter) break causing a slight slip crusing at highway speeds and on the 2002-2004 i've seen hard shifting and some rattling noise that can be fixed with a new transmission control unit or valve body. if i had a choice to buy an auto 996 it would be have a 2002 and up.
