Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, hoping someone can help me get out of a hole with my recent suspension refresh/upgrade. Car is a 2002 996 Turbo Tip. I recently had a local Indy replace essentially every part of the front and rear suspension, right down to the rear subframe bushes. The vast majority of the parts were brand new, from reputable suppliers. However, a listing appeared on this forum for a fitted, but never used set of Bilstein B8 dampers plus H&R (red) lowering springs, whixh was my preferred set and forget fast road set up. So I thought I'd save a few quid and get those. I recently had this all fitted, picked up the car and it handled fantastically, with a perfect ride height. One very happy customer. Cut to 10 days later and the suspension seems to have sunk, to the point where the front is practically sitting on the tyres - see pic below. So, can anyone suggest why this might be? The rear seems to be the perfect height? Could it be installer error (missed spacers) or knackered springs, or something else?

I'd take it back but in the meantime, how much lower were the H&Rs supposed to be?

I did, they replied that no parts were missed during the install.

POST 7Original post

There must be data available online that gives the standard ride/suspension height. I would get that and measure and compare and the you'd have the definitive data to go back to the installer with. If it helps I can measure my C4S (same as the turbo in standard) and let you know.

Thanks - the H&R springs are only supposed to lower the car 25mm - this is way beyond that, it's pretty much undriveable as even the slightest bump results in the fronts scrubbing.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wonder if they've not fitted part 11 in the below diagram...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is what another user says his B8+ H&R set up looks like...

POST 12Original post

Part 11 is the bearing that allows the steering to turn, if that wasn't there you'd definitely know about it!

POST 13Original post

Another thought, are there any numbers on the springs or shocks you can use to confirm they are the parts you thought they were? Something else to check, the shocks have a flat bit of plate welded along them, and the hub pinch bolt goes through the notch in it, the bolt is definitely in the notch?

I was thinking the same, perhaps the springs are for a 2wd 996?
