Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just recently my sunroof seems to be getting slower and slower....... the tilt function works fine, but today in the cold morning sunshire I pressed the button to slide all the way back, it eventually got there but would not close fully again without the help from me. Once it had come forward by a few inches it was fine and closed fully. Any suggestions, does it need lubrication in any form ? Thanks

POST 2Original post

The same has just started to happen on mine. Any ideas out there. '98 996 C2 in Guardsed. B8 DNC

POST 3Original post

I think the operating cables are lubricated with grease. This will harden with age and probably the recent cold weather isn't helping either. The cure is maintanance, nothing is forever.

POST 4Original post

Thanks Geoff. I've tried WD40 on the runners without success.

POST 5Original post

Try operating the roof manually with the key to check if mechanism is tight or binding. If it is, same advise as before, if not then look to the motor. Oops! these later cars don't get keys? I was lost in the good old days there for while.
