Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

never did, kept hearing horror stories about the '99-'01 996 cars and got cold feet, a reputable mechanic near where I live told me a story about a 1999 customer car he bought and a month later the engine case cracked, had to replace motor, and $14K later, not sure I want to do that trade and peace of mind.

Depending of some of the options, a 1999 C2 should run $22-$25k base on my neighborhood sales.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

been poking around at 996's for a daily driver and have been told by others to stay away from the 1999/2000 model years given a host of potential issues ranging from RMS, gearbox, expansion tank, etc. However, spending time on this board seems many who have done their work and were patient found good cars and have been quite happy with them. I found a 1999 one owner car, all books and records, mint condition, 48K miles, all service has been performed by both the dealer and reputable independent shop, doctor owned, selling to get a 997 so he's a Porsche guy, another plus, anyways, he's asking $28K, any input here or comments on the 1999? Again, as there are many horror stories out there, seems to be a lot more happy early 996 owners out there as well. Thanks for any input.
$28k is a tad on the high side. Depending of some of the options, a 1999 C2 should run $22-$25k base on my neighborhood sales. Check Edmunds.com for sales in your zip code.
Has the owner completed the 60K miles service (I saw the mileage 48k but thought I would ask the question)? Has the clutch been replaced? If not you could be paying full price and getting a big bill in the short future.
Before you do anything, have a PPI done at an independent Porsche shop other then the owners. Rule out body damage and other mechanical issues. Cost $300-$500 depending how deep you want to dig. Run a Car-fax also too.
Assuming a good bill of health, it should be a fun ride.
appreciate the color, no 60K service and original clutch which concerns me a bit, looking at the car today and will schedule a PPI with a reputable independent shop, surprised these cars are selling where they are, 22-25 seems very low
