Add three hours labour and alignment, I'd like to think you'd got some change from £1,250?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My mate's car - not mine.
Both front springs corroded and a piece has fell off on one side or something. OPC quote to supply and fit is
2970.66 Inc VAT
Surely that's ridiculous right???
Thorney Motorsport had springs manufactured for McLaren to avoid the McLaren tax whilst maintaining the lower value cars and in effect extending their desirability and value ... a starting point for Porsche owners if a significant issue ?
Or ask Suspension Secrets ? It may not be an exact replacement but it may be better ??

I’d be finding a set of springs myself and have an independent fit them. A quick shufty on eBay and I found a complete set of genuine (RS) suspension for that kind of money, as an example.
I’m confident with some time spent you could find the parts and have it all fitted for a fraction of that cost.

Your friend should speak To Steve Bennett at
https://sixfour.co.uk/
He'll upgrade the whole suspension for not much more to Motion Control or TracTive if warranty not an issue.

Warranty just been extended till 2028
Suspect that's why inspection or service, not sure why it was on ramp. Think he mentioned nose llft creaking or something like.
He now has a quote from in indie. I won't mention any names. I get the feeling they're precise in the way they deal with customer cars. I'm still unhappy with the price. Its now a smidge over £1900. Only 3 hours labour. Rest is parts and alignment.
Did they send him any photographs of the broken spring?
I had corroded front springs + cracked discs + 4 new tyres list on a warranty renewal once. And it was 2 tyres that were worn, but they could only get N1 and all four had to be the same.

Paused and took a screenshot
I think they're saying a piece here is missing. Maybe they snapped it off before the free inspection. Passenger side spring looks pretty badly corroded too but in tact.

How much is the part? That always gives you an idea of how much you re being screwed for labour.
I d get an independent to do it in any case.
The springs are £78.42 each. The fitting £450, the alignment £250, the rest is for KY jelly and VAT.
Sorry, I read that wrong, it was a vat full of KY jelly, plus the vodka and tonic

Labour at indie is 3 hours plus the alignment. Rest is parts.

Design911 sell a pair of front springs for £656.78 inc VAT (in my experience their prices are around 10% more than Porsche retail)
Add three hours labour and alignment, I'd like to think you'd got some change from £1,250?

I see the problem here. You have assumed the [various] quotes only include the springs. You foolish man. There are SO much more parts required. Various stuff. Probably most of which you've never heard of.
Let's get back to the thread title ....
Porsche quote for this 3 f
king grand.

I take it this is not a warranty issue if its been extended to 2028? I thought OPC extended warranty was the gold standard?
Snapped springs on a 10+ year old car are wear and tear.

Snapped spring on my ex's 8 year old 911 was replaced under extended warranty. The car was recovered, courtesy car dropped off and repair completed with zero hassle. I don't recall seeing in the Porsche warranty material that springs are excluded at a certain age/mileage.
Edit to add, a quick look at Porsche warranty shows that shock absorbers are on the list not covered by wear and tear, but springs are not. I'd expect this to be covered.

Agreed, it's a failure of part, not wear and tear.

Good info. This is something I’d never have even asked as I’d assume they would class as consumable.
Latest expense update
While parked outside someone drove into front bumper. It was cracked and damaged the number plate and it's plinth.
Insurance approved repair involved replacing the bumper etc.
My mate reckons over 9 grand. I just can't believe that.
An unpainted bumper was £5k last time i checked. Paint at a generic body shop would be £500, then a few grand labour, plus margin. Not an unreasonable figure to arrive at, if somewhat aggressive.
Aftermarket parts supply is a not insignificant revenue stream for OEMs.
Reference the original topic posed in this thread, I had a 991.1 GT3 a short while back and had the front springs replaced at a dealer, corrosion front stone chips i think, it was £1700'ish all in iirc, just sharing a data point.

It's double whammy, there's an element (some would say, I tend to think correctly) of price gouging going on.
On the flipside, how many 991.1 GT3's were built ? The number will be tiny compared to the numbers of base 991.1 or 991.1 S they produced.
Amortise the tooling costs required for the front bumper (probably half a million quid) required for the
3000
cars as opposed to
70,000
cars, and you end up with bumpers costing £7K or more ...
https://teile.com/en/porsche-parts-shop/model-911-...
Whereas the front bumper for a base 991.1 costs 1400 euros
https://www.rosepassion.com/en/diagrams-porsche-99...
Meanwhile if you want to stand out from the 991.1 base crowd you can have the Aerokit version which costs 3 times as much.
https://www.rosepassion.com/en/diagrams-porsche-99...
I don't really see why OP's struggling with the numbers ? It's economies of scale, nothing more, nothing less. It ain't rocket science.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
