I mean with all the wrinkles like not triggering the airbag, or setting any fault codes etc?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got the apparently well-known problem on my 1999 911 996, where the horn sounds on braking, gentle touch of wheel etc. I understand that it's because the airbag mounting bushes are rotten and no longer support it properly. Various posts from the US show fixes involving O-rings or silicone sealant, but I can't seem to find much about it here in the UK. Can anyone give an account of the procedure to use the silicone sealant method, please? I mean with all the wrinkles like not triggering the airbag, or setting any fault codes etc? Many thanks.

POST 2Original post

I had this on my 986 the other week. Mike at Zentrum said normally fits o rings but foam is a short term fix too. Been fine since. Was embarrassing when braking behind people or going over rough roads sounding like a hooligan!!
