Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was quoted $35k for the parts to repair the car - and that was from a person who had viewed the car at auction.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yikes, this looks pretty bad. Does anyone have a spare 996 TT engine lying around?

POST 2Original post

I don't have an engine for you, Don, but what happened? ....Rickker

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

She's at an insurance auction. I almost bought the car until I looked at the photos more closely. The smaller photos that you click on the reach the larger photos showed more damage than just the engine compartment. I think the auction site was posting the most favorable photos. I was quoted $35k for the parts to repair the car - and that was from a person who had viewed the car at auction. The fact that this salvage yard owner did not purchase the car at auction tells me something. It looks like a fun project...

POST 4Original post

For us other TT owners out there...did they determine the cause of the fire? I lost a 99 996 to fire, so I'm interested in any potential hot spots....so to speak. I've heard that the power steering fitting is prone to failure and sprays fluid over the manifold that eventually catches fire. I now carry a Halon extinguisher. Chuck

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't have a clue as it was spotted at an auction adn we have no history. The cabriolet top and drivers side door panels are burned as well.

POST 6Original post

Have you searched for it here. I thought I saw one a while back FS. Man. I dont stop on grass. Don't have any oil drops on the floor, but can't fathom as quick leak turning in this.
