Just to make it a little more interesting the water pump was replaced and a new thermostat (lower temp) was fitted.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening All. Had my car for about a month and half. Its a 2001 996 Carrera manual. Its not in bad condition but has like all cars this age, a few issues. One issue that I am having is iritic coolant temp indications. When I got the car the temp needle would not return to 0 when the engine was switched off. Other times it would go completely off scale and end up resting on the fuel gauge. So the other week I replaced the coolant temp sensor. It was reading ok if a bit low to start off with. Then after picking it up from having some tires fitted it hardly moved off the blue segment. Drove it for a bit and it moved a bit. Has any body else had any similar issues. Could it be an airlock after fitting the sensor? Just to make it a little more interesting the water pump was replaced and a new thermostat (lower temp) was fitted.

Yes did think it could be the dial. Not sure if the dial is available though. Not sure if I would need to find a second hand dash and swop them over.
