Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It is worth messaging Jonttt and asking him, from memory he went through all this with a Z4, single to dual stage air bag, and I think the wheel he used came with a Porsche harness.

The wheel was supposed to be completely plug and play but not to bothered with one splice, have done lots of research and bags not polarity sensitive,I’m skipping the first stage and wiring stage two as recommended by vendor.
Leading evidence: 'Use came' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Will be standing back when reconnecting battery but confident enough to be fair……..

I’ve fitted a custom made wheel to my 996 but need to change connector to modern airbag, colours are different on connectors so I’m wondering if polarity is important and if so how I can tell which or the pair match up.

I changed the wheel on my 993 for a non-airbag Nardi but now I'm looking for a 996 C4S and would love to do the same wheel change you have.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I had an issue with the horn sounding randomly, it was because the backing plate behind the airbag was too loose, just needed to remove the airbag and tighten the torx screws

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey

Original 996 is Green/Blue Green/Red
New PDK wheel is Green/white Orange green
The 996 is the last 911 to use a single stage airbag, the 991 will have a two stage airbag.
I doubt very much you will be able to get the airbag wired up.
They say that after 20 years most airbags won't work anyway as the chemicals start to degrade. I don't know how true this is?
I think I would just put a resistor on the wiring for harness and know you don't have an airbag.
Wheel looks great btw. :thumb:

I tried to find the thread but can't remember which BMW forum it was on. It was years ago now.
But maybe PM him and ask him to have a look at this thread?
So far as i know you cannot safely fit a dual stage airbag to a single stage system as you are trying to do. I could be wrong as things may have changed as its 10 years plus since i used to do that type of thing and there may be options now to ensure it deploys correctly or even a fail safe built into the electronics ?
Here is a link to the thread referred to above, it is BMW related but the same theory would apply to porsche of that era ie the 996 so far as I’m aware.

Pics when completed later
Look forward to seeing the results.

Plenty of people fit later wheels to earlier vehicles; people in the VW T5 community do it all the time. But is it safe? I always understood that airbags were very specific to the intended fitment?
Just a few pics for those that were Intrested… haven’t driven it yet but presume it works lol .have an issue with horn sounding but working with wisemotorsports to sort that …
That looks amazing. I had an issue with the horn sounding randomly, it was because the backing plate behind the airbag was too loose, just needed to remove the airbag and tighten the torx screws
That looks great. So who supplies the conversion? I thought the newer wheels were on a different spline and the adapter extends the column a bit and looks rubbish, but yours fits great.
Any details?
