Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am getting ready to replace that little switch that is responsible for illuminating the light on the dash and informing the convertible top switch that it's ok to put down said top. While there are plenty of threads that include comments pertaining to the failure of this unit, not much in the way of how to DIY. Specifically I am wondering if it can be done by simply removing that small panel next to brake on the center console, or if I need to remove the entire console. If I need to remove the entire console I am likely to do a few other things (997 shifter unit perhaps)? But I wanted to ask the experts if they have ever done this job and if it's possible without removing the entire center console. Thanks in advance!

Yea, the center console has to come out. The microswitch (ref part#5) is located tight in the front of the brake level. This video may help. You Tube
