Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Unfortunately they fitted a 2-stalk assembly without the cruise control, but the car actually has cruise control!

My new (to me) 996.1 had a replacement stalk assembly fitted by the previous owner due to a failure of the indicator stalk.

Now, I still have the original 3-stalk unit but repairing the indicator is proving to be an absolute pain in the butt!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Now, I still have the original 3-stalk unit but repairing the indicator is proving to be an absolute pain in the butt! It's not the little canceller repair as per Alex's thread, but the plastic spring supports from the stalk itself (the other common failure point)
I'm wondering if it's possible to remove the cruise control stalk from the old unit and somehow attach it to the new unit? It looks like it's just riveted onto the plastic.
Anyone got a better insight than me?
I've searched for a replacement unit, but they seem to be exceptionally hard to find ... although 4-stalk units are more common (

) .. I can't see why that wouldn't work if I find nothing else.
Yes.. well, plastic pieces that hold that spring are snapped. I’ve glued metal inserts in to fix it, but reassembly is very difficult!
I’m pretty sure I can remove tho cruise control switch and glue it to the other unit.
Yes, I had thought of that, but what I don;t want is to end up with 2 disassembled units that I cant put back together! Going to check that I can reassemble this one with my fix, then if successful I can think about swapping the stalks.
Sorry to hear about the issues you are experiancing, but I am curious that you mention having only 3 stalks but cruise control?
My card was advertised as having cruise, but I only have 3 stalks, so assumed it was a misprint.
Would you be able to share how you identified having cruise with only 3 stalks?
Thank you and sorry for the ‘almost related’ question.
Because it was supplied with the PCM1, the onboard computer was accessed from that so didn't need the steering column stalk. My unit therefore has 2 stalks on the right (wipers and cruise) and 1 on the left (indicators). Cars with no cruise and no PCM1 would have 2 on the left (indicators and OBC) and one on the right (wipers).
Make sense?
I’ve been looking for the 4 stalk setup for over a year, buts as yet to find one! I thought as I had the cruise control light on the dash, that I might have struck lucky with this thread
I installed the 4 stalk at the same time I did the Momo conversion.
I contacted this guy, he sent the harness. Was great to deal with. If you're local he could sort the coding and everything.
Clicky for facelift 996 cruise retrofit.
My local dealer activated it and charged me 30mins labour.
