Suspected cause · Original poster

Im not very knowledgeable about paint and body but Im going to assume the paint is the same as whats on the body and that the oxidation is due to a different material used for the spoiler and the heat off the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happy New Year 1999 black cab paint code 741. Is the spoiler the same paint code? Its a different material. Search was unsuccessful. My spoiler looks like poo and has a good amount of oxidation. Ive tried several products (back to black, polish, compound, 3000 grit) with limited to no results. Ill rattle can it to be adventurous - you can get 741 in a can. If that doesnt work Ill have my paint guy spray it. Thanks.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay. Im going to try the 741 and hope for the best. Im not very knowledgeable about paint and body but Im going to assume the paint is the same as whats on the body and that the oxidation is due to a different material used for the spoiler and the heat off the engine. Ill report back later.

POST 3Original post

Curt C. It should be the same paint color unless someone replaced it before you. You could try DrColorChip and see if the color matches. Can you send pictures?

POST 4Original post

It should be the same, an alternate paint code is 041 as well . Nason and Spies-Hecker will be a dead on match

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses. Im out of town but will post some pics this Sunday or Monday. Here is what I found. TouchUpDirect 741/A1 747/A1 Black Compatible With Porsche Exact Match Touch Up Paint Aerosol - Essential Package https://a.co/d/4h80Srs

POST 6Original post

I dont know, I would find a body shop to make sure it gets blended properly. Even if the paint code is the same, the age and weathering of the car might not match the new paint.

POST 7Original post

Good point about weathering, a good tech can adjust for it.. I personally have repaired two early 911’s that showed at Amelia, no discernible variation could be detected.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pic as requested. Like I said it looks like poo up close. She's an old gal with 166K on the odometer. Paint on the body is in much, much better condition though. Still looks good actually.

POST 9Original post

Clearcoat has oxidized to failing, , very easy fix, just sand prep refinish

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19212599

You think a 2000 grit sandpaper will be appropriate? And refinish means just cleacoat?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
