So firstly, on my 2001 tip, do I need a specialist tool tool/adaptor to fill the gearbox as it appears that I’m going to have to wind up doing this myself!

The phoned once it was up on the ramp saying the the gearbox service wasn’t as described - I said it was a pretty basic service - but they said that it needed a specialist tool to pressure the oil and fill the gearbox whereas the videos I’d watched just seem to show it being pumped in with a hand pump through the open filler bolt/opening?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It’s been one of those weeks! I gave up trying to do the gearbox service myself as I was struggling to get it up in the air high enough to get good access (although now having to reconsider this!) and my local local garage said they would look at it although I could tell they weren’t too keen on doing it - they’re a big standard MOT and basic service garage but, I have no one ‘specialised’ within miles of me (in the very SW of Cornwall!) so I took them the service kit I’d got off Design911 and was looking forward to getting the car back with the gearbox done. However, it didn’t go as planned. In light of that, they didn’t want to get involved which was painful enough but, as they started lowering the car, they started to hear a ‘creaking’ noise which to abridge to story, was the inner rear sills going! So, I still haven’t got the gearbox serviced and I now need to get the sills done. So firstly, on my 2001 tip, do I need a specialist tool tool/adaptor to fill the gearbox as it appears that I’m going to have to wind up doing this myself! I have a compressor so I can use a pressurised adaptor if needed - I just need to know what to buy! Secondly, regarding the sills, where is best to get replacement sills? I’ve blisters on the rear arches so, I may use this as an opportunity to do the sills and get the rear arches repainted etc. I love this car but, it’s not making life easy for me! I’ve done virtually zero miles in it this year.

I got Williams Crawford in Plymouth to do my Tip Gearbox oil and filter change (£523). Why not ring RallyPrep in St Columb Major to see if they can do it as they are nearer. They did my IMS and have experience of work on various Porsches

I’m mainly trying to find out if I need a special tool/attachment to fill the gearbox or, is it a good old fashioned hand pump from underneath accepting that you’ll wind up getting a load on you!!
