The old thread is too long now - I reckon get nose lift as its a daily, club sport also, PCCBs, carbon interior. The rest is all personal choice. I have all that bar the nose lift, I didn't get that as I will rarely be bringing it into town. But it would be useful if I was. Car parks are a particular nuisance without it.

Have to remeber all things are cyclical (people come / people go) the OP might be just dipping his toe in to supercar ownership for the first time so we should welcome him as we've all been there... Not our place to tell him to do one because the 'GT3 Cermaic vs non Ceramic or such like' debate has been done. Just makes you look like a bit of a bell end really... Anyways going by your choice of belts 'Red seat belts'??? You'd be the last person I'd ask to pick the colour (We all know yellow are best with PCCM )

Mermaid said: knowledgeable. Could you further expand this term or your thinking behind it within the context of your post?

POST 26Original post

Hello OP. Congratulations on your GT3 purchase..... IMHO it doesn't really matter what spec you go for, the restricted numbers of these cars will ensure their future desirability, but I think you would be best deciding if the car is a keeper or a short term ownership proposition. If the former, spec it more for yourself, if the latter, you perhaps need to spec more for the market in order to maximise residuals..... I would go fairly comfort spec for daily use, but spec buckets with or without cage for track occasions. I will not be tracking mine, using as a daily driver hence no buckets. Other main options: Auto dim mirrors plus rainsensor Front lift Heated seats Coloured belts depending on external colour Leather dash and doorcappings Sound package plus Mob phone prep Chrono plus Digital radio PCM Nav PCCBs.....if you are going to track, no. Personally, I am not convinced they are worth the extra £ even for road use.

POST 27Original post

If it were me I would sit down with the configurator for an hour and work through all the choices, the configurator will then cause you much head scratching, at each point you scratch your head write down the question. Armed with this go to your OPC after booking a time and work through your spec. again with a sales person asking the questions you have written down Then the cosmetics are personal choice, carbon, light packages etc., nobody has a good word to say about the sound system or the sat nav but then if you're like me then the thought of spending £100K plus on a car and then sticking a Tom Tom in the window seems a little crazy (but understandable from a functional perspective). Then there are things like, lights and brakes, the LED light package has cost more than I paid for my MK1 Astra GTE in 1988 and I am sure that the standard lights are more than up to the job of lighting the way forward when it gets dark and the same can be said for the PCCB's the two combined stacks up to nearly £10K and to be honest if you ask the question re. PCCB's v Steels you will probably be none the wiser after everybody has stated their point of view LOL! Specifying the car is part of the excitement, once you've done it you have the wait for delivery, so enjoy the process and ask on here regarding specifics grab your bag of popcorn and sit back and watch the carnage ensue

POST 28Original post

Exciting times FJ, You need to think about if the car is a keeper or scratching an itch ? If it were me I'd look at the following:- PCCB (I have them on my GT3 and love them) PCM Telephone Module Lift System (Very good) Sports Bucket Seats ( Even on a daily drive these will be very comfortable and IMO make for better onward sell) Painted headlamp cleaning system cover (IMO they should be painted to finish the car off, as untouched they are the only chrome on the car and look daft !) Racing Yellow seat belts (If you spec PCCB) Cruise control (Helpful on the Motorway as it's such an easy car to break speed limits in) Leather if you want a bit of comfort, standard if it's a track day car (Then maybe also consider clubsport) Lastly, bit of a curve ball, but I'd also consider factory collection. It's a great experience and makes the whole thing more special...

POST 29Original post

There is plenty to argue about in any answer to this question, but the most important thing is to ensure that it has bucket seats. As it is going on track, I would say Clubsport is a no brainer (no further charge and if the cage offends at any point you can unbolt it and take it out. Putting one in afterwards costs thousands though, so if you or any subsequent owner might ever want one - spec from new). I recommend cruise control as much as anything to help you keep the speed down on motorways (especially temporary speed restrictions or on long haul motorway journeys to Spa, Nurburg, etc...). 6 point passenger harness is much cheaper specced from new than bought afterwards as well (note that harnesses are easily folded out of the way when not in use). If it were me I would also take the PCM, Sound package Plus, DAB and phone prep - none essential but all nice to have on a long haul trans continental cruise to the track. Everything else is fill yer boots with whatever you fancy if it is worth the money to you. Ceramics a bad idea if it is going to be tracked, but that debate is buried beneath hundreds of pages on other threads - better to read up on that elsewhere than blight this thread with it.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to everyone, little did I know the castigation I'd receive! Anyway, I'm pretty close. To be clear, I had no interest in what colours/seatbelt colours/dial colours people liked, I was really looking at tea-world decisions and advice. Maybe I should have made myself clearer. So I'm left with three questions, and I'd be thrilled with anyone's thoughts. I plan to keep the car a while, so it isn't a short-term spec. 1 Lift. I live in London so speed humps worry me, but equally a new splitter isn't that expensive. Is £2k for the lift worthwhile? 2 Chrono Package Plus - what are the advantages/benefits? 3 Cruise control - is it useful? Does the GT3 cruise comfortably at 80-90? Again, thanks for the advice, I've specced the sports buckets, and most basics, but I am skipping the PCCBs, just not sure I'll get the benefit... FJ

POST 32Original post

fhkj said: 1 Lift. I live in London so speed humps worry me, but equally a new splitter isn't that expensive. Is £2k for the lift worthwhile? The significant caveat on the subject of lift is that on the 997 there were alarmingly high failure rates on the system (especially on cars which were tracked) and it can be ruinously expensive to fix if you are going to have the car beyond the warranty period and don't want to extend at £1200/year. (They also seem to take their time getting it sorted). I thought that I'd have liked it when I bought my 997, but am actually glad that I got one without it now. It is only worth it if you can't park it at your home without it IMHO, otherwise quite easy to live without. {Tip ; put your suspension into Sport when going over speed bumps - often it is just enough to stop the brake ducts and splitter from grounding as the suspension compresses when it falls off the far side} fhkj said: 2 Chrono Package Plus - what are the advantages/benefits? On a GT3 there are none except the stopwatch in the dashboard that you will never use (the sport button part is standard on GT3s). My 997 has it, but it has never been used in the time that I've owned it. fhkj said: 3 Cruise control - is it useful? Does the GT3 cruise comfortably at 80-90? The problem is that a GT3 will cruise as comfortably at 110 as it will at 80 and clock-watching the speedometer can be necessary on an undulating road. Keeping it down at 50 in temporary speed restrictions can also be tiresome, so contrary to some people's expectations - cruise is actually very nice to have on a GT3. Edited by DiscoColin on Thursday 23 January 18:49
