Hi, It's a Long story but my 2008 987
Boxster
has had a persistent
battery
draw that was draining the
battery
, so I disconnected it and have been using a
booster
pack connected to the fuse panel in driver's footwell to power the car up enough to use the remote to unlatch the frunk in order to reconnect the
battery
and start the car. I have done this a half-dozen times with no problem. Now, however, after the car has sat for over a month without being powered on, the frunk button is not working nor is anything coming on when power is connected to fuse panel. I can't get into the frunk to reconnect.
I recall that there is a procedure involving using the key to open the door and "wake up" the remote receiver so that it will work. Does anyone know how to do this? I need to move the car and get it to somewhere that the electrical draw can be diagnosed.
If you apply 12VDC to the cigarette lighter socket and you can open the frunk with the switch.
That is what I had to do when the battery died on my 08 Cayman S.
I've also seen some videos of removing the drivers side front fender well and you can access an emergency release to manually open the frunk.
There has got to be many posts and threads concerning your problem, in addition to parasitic drain trouble shooting.
Do a search on dead
battery
problems and several solutions have been discussed. I've done it all ways to ensure I could do it in an emergency. I re-routed and extended the pull cable release under the drivers side wheel well so I could reach it with the wheel on, (check the owners manual for left hand drive cars), provided 12v to cigarette lighter and also fuse box. Your
battery
may be totally dead and now requires the mechanical solution to access the Fronk. You need to solve the drain issue before
battery
replacement. It will just chew up a new
battery
if you don't. Severe discharge and delayed re-charge after bottoming out the
battery
is no bueno. I am told there are ways to awaken a totally dead
battery
too.
Good luck and let us know what's happening. Do some more searching and you will probably find an exact procedure for your car!
Good luck P-car brother!
The wire on the back of the fuse panel that connects the "emergency power" connector is pretty darn tiny. I used a "jump box" and connected to the EP connection and the door latch. I had to wait a few minutes until the in car
battery
accepted a bit of charge from the jumper pack and then used the door jamb switch to pop the trunk. Sometimes the key fob is better and I've heard the fob uses less power to pop the lid.
I had this exact issue and it worked by pressing the key fob button for ~2 seconds instead of the drivers side floor button, whilst hooked up to a new 12v car
battery
. For future readers of this thread make sure you try both!
Thanks. My
2008 cayman s
has a dead
battery
. Tried attaching both a
booster
and doner
battery
to the pull out in the fuse box and using door panel switch. No luck Wanted to use your method but How do you apply 12VDC to the cigarette lighter port? It’s simple to power things from the port, but don’t how to apply power to the port.
I just cut off the
plug
end from a light accessory, the end that plugs into the cigarette port and connect it to a set of jumping cables attached to another car.
I tried before using a
battery
charger but didn't work (not enough amps perhaps?), but when connected to another
battery
, it works flawless, good luck!
