Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, After much consideration, I've decided that a 996 might be a better move than trying to find the 964 of my dreams. I'm looking at a 2000 cabrio... I was looking for some advice and to be enlightened on any of the gotcha's with this generation or even that particular year. My main question... I've heard the 99s have the engine issue... do the 2000 and higher have the same problem?... or any others. Cheers!

POST 2Original post

The vehicles with the 3.4L engines had a higher degree of probability for the RMS leaking/failing. There are many threads on engine replacements because of some of the 3.4L engine problems. Use the search function. That being said, this late in the game, if the engine was going to be a problem on some of the first 996s it most likely would have been diagnosed or resolved at this time. The 996 are fun vehicles! Do your homework and draw your own conclusions on the engine issues. If you are going to purchase a 996, get a PPI done. If you want sound mind and body, get a CPO 996 and allow Porsche's warranty to assume the greater portion of the risk. Good luck in your search.
