Leading evidence: 'Check pin numbers and pattern' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check pin numbers and pattern' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I would guess that with a Porsche, the more you load your car with weight and fill the frunk up with stuff the lights will dip slightly lower than higher, so not dazzle oncoming traffic, like in most cars?

Porsche uses different harnesses for different options so u will have to take a deep dive into the schematic.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2001 parts car with xenon litronic headlights, I am wondering which parts from 2001 I will need to removed to be able to use them in my 1999.
Thank you
You might also need to get the ECU programmed , My Durametric shows the Xenon light option in the ECU but not detected. It has Halogens currently.
If you can, might be worth getting the headlight harnesses out of the donor.. THe factory connectors are kinda cheesy..
The factory location for the litronic control box is located behind the passenger front airbag in a mk1. This makes some of the wiring difficult because u have to pull wires through the firewall. I am not sure u there is enough wire to leave it or move that part of the harness in the frunk bay. Porsche uses different harnesses for different options so u will have to take a deep dive into the schematic. I was able to splice/repin a 2000 frunk harness to a 2004 mk2 harness but both cars had litronics. Im sure it can be done but pelican parts has some moduals that allow litronics to work independant of the car and that may be a much easier option?
U will also have to swap the entire frunk harness. U can ignore or remove the extra wires for the romote frunk release.
My 99 originally came with halogens and a previous owner slapped in Litronics. Ive poked around them a fair bit and nothing needed to be altered in the wiring to get them to work. However, the ride height sensors mounted to the front suspension are of course absentthats where an alteration to the harness beyond just the headlights might come in. Im assuming this ride height adjustment is dispensable, from a safety perspective.
I dont think the stock Litronics do that. Theres a separate high beam bulb. The retrofitlab kit that I installed on my Litronics does, and this is independent of any other control module since as I say my car didnt come with Litronics originally.
Yea maybe its the mk2 lights that tilt up? I do remember reading that 1 or 2 pins r different too. The plug is the same but it has to be switched around but that may be a mk2 thing too?
My 99 had halogens (I think) and I just put in a set of 996.1 Litronics without the level sensors. Theyre great on low beam and high seems decent but its a separate bulb. The high beam pattern is higher up than the low beam pattern.
They will just swap over and work. Min beams will be halogen.
You will need to add the retrofit cable...
Part number
99661298800 which is around €150.
...and then a litronics module*, if you want to have bi-xenon.
Let's be honest though, the biggest gain with xenons is driving on low beam where halogens tend to suck.
*Not sure which litronics modules work? But sure ones from other cars like boxsters should be OK, and they tend to be considerably cheaper than the 996 specific one.
Just check pin numbers and pattern.
The control module for the 996.1 litronics is nice but not mission critical, it drives the tilt motor inside the housing based on the suspension level sensor and also raises the beam 1.5 degrees (iirc) when you enable the highs, since there's a regular halogen bulb for the highs as well the second feature is not super compelling. You can now retrofit true bi-xenon into the .1 kit with the retrofitlabs kit, which is a great upgrade, the high beam solenoid is driven by the wiring for the high beam halogen hence no external controller needed. If you haven't peeked inside the lights in a while, prepare for the internal wiring insulation to be pretty brittle.
The retrofit 2nd stage on the BI-zenon, I believe is supposed to fill in the high beam somewhat.
The projectors is what it says, so it has a focus. Thats why the stock one doesn't upgrade well to a bi-zenon bulb.
It has no "spot" focus.
Question is, does the retrofit lab version have a dual focus reflector and lens.
Either way, its a upgrade..
At one point, in order to have legal HID's they had to auto level. Don't know if that idea died, or they just don't enforce it.

My 99 original halogen car has upgraded litronics(retrofit reflectors and better bulbs from Europe, which is cheaper than buying them from the US distributor right now), and they just pop in. Obviously the level motors don't do anything, but my headlights are awesome. My 00 friend is jealous every time he sees how bright they are.
