So you hadn't even ran the engine....from the description of the oil pressure fluctuating around 1 bar and the panic state you were in it sounded like you had ran the engine quite a bit....just goes to show how the written words can be missinterpreted..

Suggestion
I have seen that a lot on new engines, the reliefe valve sticks a bit and crushes the filter..If the filter is crushed, check/clean the reliefe valve..
Leading evidence: 'Run engine quite a bit....just goes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also you mite want to check the oil filter to see if it has collapsed.

It is not unusual to take over 11 qts to fill a "Dry" engine after a complete rebuild...Somewhere in the thousands of pages of Porsche shop manual it makes reference to this...
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Suggestion
Even though the fill level on 996.1 is 9.3 qts, it means there is quite a lot of oil that never gets fully drained and is trapped/hidden in various cavities within the engine.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ive been trying the recommended short cranks and even attempted longer ones. Gave up after 20 minutes and the gauge fluctuates below one bar. No change. What is changing is the oil level. I put in all 10 quarts of my break in oil and each time I crank it it goes down! Like where the hell is the oil going?! The car only takes 9.5!
So Ive given up for the night. I know I wont sleep but I need to figure out the pressure issue. Some of you already know everything is new on the engine. Including the oil relief valve.
Am I not doing it enough? I mean 20 minutes of quick cranks and long cranks and no change seems odd to me. Talk me off the ledge guys.
I'm sure you video taped the first crank, just post the video so I can see how long it ran. It takes a little before oil pressure builds..
Also you mite want to check the oil filter to see if it has collapsed. I have seen that a lot on new engines, the reliefe valve sticks a bit and crushes the filter..If the filter is crushed, check/clean the reliefe valve..
Thanks to
@TexSquirrel
, who translated the LN guide for me. He said it wont build pressure unless you start it. Boom. It started. Im on cloud nine. Video coming soon.

Exactly. I read it one way, and it was intended another. Why not just say, START YOUR F*CKING ENGINE??!! Thats what I needed to hear. Every other engine Ive worked on requires a few cranks to build pressure. Even A Man In A Garage was turning it over and showed pressure building. 🤷🏼♂️
So where did the oil go? Pumped into the head but not enough speed on the scavenge pumps to return to the sump?
I have a similar situation, I put 11 qts in, 10 at first, and its sitting in the middle of the dip stick after my first run.
A lot of oil can sit in the heads after the engine has been running. It takes a while to drain back.
Also i remember reading that the starter doesnt turn the motor over fast enough to build pressure. Its recomended that u start the motor and turn off quickly a few times to prime the motor.
makes sense as to the oil quantity.
As far as the first start, Id read the same. I did 3 short starts, that got me up to 2 bars, the 4th I let it run and pressure built immediately.
One way to cause slow oil pressure build is to prefill the oil filter if you have a canister style and not the stock Porsche cartridge,,
it will "clog" with air between the pump and filter till the engine spins to drive the oil through and force the air to move on.
I havent started the engine for over 36 hours and the dipstick still shows low oil. Once I get the car on the ground, Ill get it up to operational temp by driving it around my neighborhood. I'll check it again. I mean its almost 10 quarts, man. Sure it cant all be sitting in the heads. Heres hoping the scavenger pumps are working. 🍻
Oh and I'm hoping to drop the video TONIGHT! The exhaust sounds awesome!!
What does the dash oil level say after sitting overnight? Ideally it should be on the 2nd to third block lit up.
The car needs to sit level overnight to give you a accurate reading whether dipstick or Dash gage.
My car took 10 quarts from totally dry with the new engine, On the first oil change at 150 miles I drained about 9.

Even though the fill level on 996.1 is 9.3 qts, it means there is quite a lot of oil that never gets fully drained and is trapped/hidden in various cavities within the engine. Another reason that changing oil frequently is very important ...
Yogi, you are a brave man and I have a lot of respect for you. When I first saw your hot soak in Simple Green I was horrified and laughed. Couldn't believe you did that and posted it. Then I was really glad you shared it and bought aviation grade cleaner for my parts cleaner. Something that is safe for aluminum. Now you are sharing your struggle with getting it started for the first time. I watched your latest video. You have no fear of the trolls as you learn to put this thing together.
I'm just behind you in M96 build. Mine is taking longer as I started in 2020, but didn't really decide to do the rebuild until 2021. I broke a camshaft two weeks ago and boy was it a bad feeling. The last thing I wanted to do was share it with the group. Now I'm rethinking that so others can learn.
Thank you for all your brave content. Be encouraged.
Dude, thanks for the kind words. I too am glad I shared my experience. There was no way I could continue and expect to be respected if I hid a mistake that big. Luckily I learned from it and came out the other side the better for it. Good luck with your build. I can't stop smiling after I drove my car for the first time and heard her roar down the road.
Sorry if I seem overly cynical, but cmon It has nothing to do with bravery (a sorely over used term these days along with hero). The bottom line is stupidity sells. When someone flaunts their stupidity on a public web channel such as YouTube I can only see 5 basic reasons (Im sure there are more, but I wont go into all the psycho babble).
1,2, 3 & 4 - MONEY, MONEY, MONEY MONEY!
5 - The poster yearns to be publicly shamed, degraded, berated etc
I believe #5 is much less common, but who knows - Theres a LOT of really bad (as in low quality) stuff on YouTube
*All this being said there are also some truly amazing videos, lessons, how tos etc. on YouTube as well, so this is by no means a criticism of the platform(s) its/themselves.
**This is also not a knock directly on Yogi Barra himself as I do suppose there is some entertainment value to his video. His self deprecating humor is indeed refreshing - just not brave per se
