Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

[8|] 996 cabrio 1999. Got into car fine this morning, went to go out midday and the driver side external pull handle doesn't open door, I am able to get in via passenger door and open from the inside. The lifting the handle does actuate the window release lowering approx 15 mm's out of gutter. Does anyone have any ideas/help. Have tried unlocking locking several times both via electronic key fob and manually key in lock to no avail. p.s. now full member.

POST 2Original post

It's probably the mechanism in the door handle unit. This unit also contains the switches for the window drop, lock/unlock, and for the alarm circuit. Not hugely expensive (I had a switch go on mine and the car would only emergency lock), but a total pain in the *rse to get to it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like I've now got a job for the weekend, do you have any tips for removing the door panel. Is it just a series of bayonet clips?? i.e. leverage around the edge of the door panel. I note there is a screw fastener behind the door latche on the inside, are there any hidden fasteners??

POST 4Original post

I have the extract from the workshop manual that shows the door trim removal. It's a pdf file of about 1.1Mb. If you email me I'll attach it to a reply.
