I have owned a 2012 997.2S for about 3 months … it’s a one owner car with 92k miles, and I have loved it so far. I was out of town for a week or so, and went to start it for a short drive and it was slow to start; when it finally fired, it ran really rough and then coughed and died. Eventually went into ‘Reduced Power’ mode. It’s odd because when I last drove it, it was running great. At this point, I am not sure if I should a) buy a code reader for
Porsche
b) tow it to my Indie c) tow it to my dealer and risk my wallet being stolen. It feels like it may be an
ECU
issue and wonder if any one has ideas as to what might have caused this self-inflicted garage wound? Thanks in advance … Lovejoy.
I would suggest confirming the
battery
hasn't gone bad.
Thanks … turns over fine, but will put the trickle charge on it.
And after checking the
battery
- go to our diagnostics area and read up on the tools that we've looked at. Paying $160 for a capable scan tool is chump-change compared to one-hour of labor at dealer rates. I think anyone hanging out here looking at tech questions really should have a tool since it makes a real diagnosis - not guesses based on others' experiences - much more valuable.
Agree … planning to buy a scanner tomorrow
It was the
fuel pump
. Was able to use my PCA discount and the price dropped from $2100 to $1100 (wow) without core charge. Cost $500 to install by my indie… running like a cheetah chasing a rabbit now!
Thats just so asinine… my fuel system on my MR2 was waaaaay more sophisticated than that and it cost a few hundred bucks and would support 800hp… glad you got it figured out
Yeah, I was pretty shocked at the price but didn’t have a reference point … what was (almost) worse was that there was only one OE Pump the Midwest and I sbagged it by happenstance. Thanks.
I just wonder what that part number also references with … is it a
Bosch
? A friend of mine had a 360 and the pump from Ferrari was like 3k and the regular non Ferrari
Bosch
part number was like 500
50% PCA discount. We used to get 20%, now 13%. Shouldn't it have gone up due to inflation?
Haha you would have thunk
I was blown away … it doesn’t make sense. Two dealers wanted $2200 and then both were $1100 with the PCA discount. Oh well …
Are those in the tank? Shouldn’t be to tough installing
On a
911
997.2
, it’s not in the tank. It requires the engine to be partially dropped according to my indie. I paid him $700 to install the high pressure pump … so, $1,800 total less $140 core charge. The dealer wanted $3,500.
I didn’t realize that’s what was needed to be done. a great savings through the Indy . It’s getting to the point now with either of these cars to drop motors to do anything…
Yep … it was a nice car and I loved it … ended it up selling it to a friend so I could get a car w a back seat for toting grand kids. Ended up w a 2012
997.2
911S
Cab. Same colors (silver/black). Both are great cars, much the same, and also quite different.
I know what you’re saying… when you sit in the seat it doesn’t feel all that different (987 vs 997). Handling is a little different but not as much as I would’ve thought. The 997 is a much better put together car tho… way more refined imo
