I just de-greased it and used a heat gun on some of the scratches.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've the usual gray plastic centre console in my 996 C4S , and it has some scratches on it , has anyone removed , stripped and sprayed theirs in Artic silver themselves and then lacquered it. I've seen photographs of them already done and they look so much better , if so did you wet flat it and plastic prime , top coat and lacquer it yourselfs or send it to a professional body shop ?

POST 2Original post

I repainted mine a few weeks ago. Easy to remove and put back. I used Mat black general purpose spray paint to try to match the original. I just de-greased it and used a heat gun on some of the scratches. Not perfect but much better than the tatty scratched up original. I think a glossey silver one would look better, I would lacquer it if painting it silver. You should consider doing the same to other trim parts so that it matches the new console colour?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the information , mine is currently light gray to match all the interior , I think the silver goes so well with the gray . There are quite a lot of consoles on ebay , I've even thought of buying one and then playing around with it until im happy it's perfect , dead money I know but hay ho ??

POST 4Original post

There's a silver one now on EBay for 150 plus shipping. The problem with silver is if it scratches, the black underneath will show very obviously. Or go carbon fibre like I did from design911, and that'll look the absolute business and not have visible scratches (except the clear coat)

POST 5Original post

Vinyl wrapping is another option. If you do a search, you'll find some pics of consoles and seat backs.

POST 6Original post

I've been thinking about this with mine. I'm tempted to go the plasti-dip route.

POST 7Original post

I had mine dipped in metallic blue carbon fibre along with the air con, radio and ignition key surround, looks great although the guy that did it had to strip the grey soft touch paint and said it was a pain.
