I'm VERY happy with these results but haven't done enough "testing" to make a big deal out of it yet.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

32 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Along with my new wheels. The wheels are, well...wheels. They're basically the same size as my stock solid turbo twists (fronts are 8" wide instead of 7.5") but the tire sizes are identical and I've lost about 24 lbs. of unsprung weight compared to the old setup--I won't complain about that. The Sumitomos are great. No complaints in a few hundred miles of driving.

POST 2Original post

and all this time I thought your porsche was the rust bucket in your avatar :-) LOL

POST 3Original post

I do like it when we get pics for even the siple things told ya the Sumis are a great value plus you saved enough to really have some fun and replace them in 1/2 the normal time ENJOY !

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7661367

Ha, other than a couple of small avatar pics from several years ago (pre-dating the rust bucket avatar), that's the first picture I've ever posted of the car. One thing I'm seriously glad I didn't do was stuff 19s in there. I really considered it and thought it would look great, but I'm very happy with my new, basic stock 18" wheel setup.

POST 5Original post

The Sumis will get better in time, much better as they wear in a bit. I've had 2 sets and the first few hundred miles they feel a tad greasy. This goes away and they start feeling really good, great as a matter of fact. Enjoy

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7661490

Yes, I've felt the greasy thing that I've seen mentioned but it's slowly going away. For the price I can't complain anyway--absolute worst case scenario, I hate the Sumis and dump them to try the Hankook Ventus V12 K110 (whatever they are) and would have STILL probably spent less than buying PS2s.

POST 7Original post

Another fan of the sumis here. Maybe 500 miles into them.

POST 8Original post

Looks good Jake. Do you notice the reduction in unsprung weight?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 7661364

Your car looks great with the Carrera wheels. Besides looking good, they're sooooo easy to clean. May God bless the guy who designed these wheels! P.S. I have them on my Boxster.

POST 11Original post

Nice wheels. There is a guy with a 993 C4 who DD's his Sumis year around in Seattle. Appears to be fairly versatile.

POST 12Original post

Are they quiet? that is what I am looking for...

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 7663266

Quiet when new, quiet when completely worn out, and in between. Pirelli Asymetricos were quite harsh and very noisy, noisier as they wore, Yoko, and Dunlops were noisier than the Sumis.

POST 14Original post

Rims are great and sumi will be great too once you scuff them up.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 7661633, 7663266

The only thing I've noticed is that the ride seems to be a little rougher than my old summer or winter tires, and that's with 4 fewer psi in the rear than I normally run. I'm not sure what to attribute that to yet, but it's not enough to lose any sleep over. Hmm, I can't say that I've noticed that they're any WORSE than my old Dunlops, but that's about as much as I could say.

POST 16Original post

I am running 44 psi and getting a very smooth ride on a new set of 295's SUMITOMO. This is compared to my old 285s SUMI with less than 1/32.

POST 17Original post

Over 4000 miles on my set of Sumi III's and am happy with them. Definitely quieter than the Conti's I had previously.

POST 18Original post

I love the sumos on my 996, much better than the Pilot Sports that they replaced!

POST 19Original post

I will echo the positive comments on the Sumi's. The "greasy" deal wears off really fast. I had less than 500 miles on mine when I completed a DE back in April. ~3000 miles since then and much quieter than the Conti's they replaced.

POST 20Original post

I got mine a couple of months ago and no complaints so far. I've only autocrossed them though and haven't tried a DE yet. Next month the car goes on a road trip to Tampa, FL - so let's see how they do there.

POST 21Original post

Calling Tim.... You let this one slip through the cracks?!?!

POST 23Original post

So you lost 6lbs. per corner with the new 18" wheels, were your old wheels also 18"OEM? What is the weight of your lighter Porsche wheels F+R? I would think that you would 'feel' an improvement with a 24lb.unsprung weight reduction.

POST 25Original post

ELATED to keep hearing all these great reviews! I used to sell almost all PS2 for these cars, at twice the price. I would say a full 75% of my forumn member calls are now for these tires. If I can get people into 90% of the performace for half the price, I'm all about it.... Please call me if interested.

It's more than I thought on the rears and a little less on the fronts. I just checked my figures again for my new setup versus the stock 18" turbo twists with Hankook W300 winter tires installed. I was not able to weigh everything on its own, so I'll just share the weight of each tire/rim combo. These were all weighed on the same day on the same shipping scale I keep in my garage: Front: Stock w/ winter tires: 50 lb, 5 oz New w/ summer tires: 46 lb, 2 oz Rear: Stock w/ winter tires: 61 lb New w/ summer tires: 52 lb, 8 oz The tires are all the same sizes and I believe that my winter tires actually weigh slightly less than the Sumitomos. There were no overly large wheel weights on any of these wheels. It looks like I'm saving over 4 lbs on each front wheel and over 8 lbs on each rear wheel. Either the stock turbo twists are heavier than I thought or my Hankook winter tires are heavier than I thought (Damon?). Tire Rack has weights listed for the Sumitomos but not for the Hankook winters. Amazon's weight of the Hankooks shows that they're 1-2 lbs lighter than the Sumis depending on size. I'm VERY happy with these results but haven't done enough "testing" to make a big deal out of it yet. Like I said, the car seems to ride slightly rougher (which seems to make sense to me), but I can't comment on the overall handling much yet. I haven't even mentioned the most satisfying part of this whole change. Anyone care to guess? Damon, I used your name as a referral and was pleased to see your name on my invoice. I'm in sales and know that every little bit helps!

Great guesses, guys! My new wheels that weigh less than my stock turbo twists are replicas. I was pretty uneasy about buying them because of the "they're going to be dangerous and heavy" horror stories. Imagine my surprise when my cheap replicas weighed less than my OEM Porsche rims!
