This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apologises if this has come up before and if it has please just direct me to the thread, but I have used the search function to death and to no avail. Other than the interior, no glovebox versus glove box, the little document holder under the steering wheel on the 996.1 and bose being standard on the 996.2 . I really can't find anything that states the differences whether they be cosmetic or technical between the 996.1 Turbo and the 996.2 Turbo. So any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

POST 2Original post

They weren't really designated Gen1 /Gen2 it was just the Turbo and upgrades in each year were minimal. There's a very good video on YT from PCA by Nathan Myres ? ..he explains everything you need to know. One thing they get wrong along with most Americans is that they keep calling it a Twin Turbo or TT for short...so annoying ....it's just called a Turbo. Count how many times they call it a Twin Turbo , I mean why don't the call it a 996 Twin Diff ...it's to tell it apart from the last single turbo'd 911 the 930 I think.

POST 3Original post

As mentioned by Uncle Monty a Turbo is a Turbo with maybe a few tweaks along the way in its production run

POST 4Original post

The 04 model year on are a lot lot better. -The chassis is 3000% stiffer - It's not well known but 04 and 05 my have same power as the 997t while doing 10mpg more. -They have PCM2 entertainment which is still state of the art today! - The crankcase were redesigned and are much better, they have a 996 part number, the early ones has 964 part number - The ignition lock is much better and doesn't go wrong as often - the alternator is 150 amp and has a 997 part number, the earlier ones were 120 amp. Due to these differences the 04 on are far more desirable to those in the know and worth 10k more. I have an 05 my. OK I made the first three up, as Uncle Monty and Marty said minor differences, and therefore you should buy on condition not year!

POST 5Original post

The chassis definitely get weaker and become more limp as they age. Mine has lost it's stiffness for sure , I need to go and see someone about it.

POST 6Original post

Oh I forgot to mention they are bloody brilliant cars
