Great tip, I’ve replaced a few regulators over the years on the Boxster and the 911, good money saving exercise

Anyway, I'm reluctant to pay nigh on £500 for a new motor and I've also been struggling to find a 2nd hand one for under £100........until I stumbled on a replacement motor on amazon and once I checked out all the part numbers it replaced, I noticed it's shared with the 1997-2005 Audi A6.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm currently having an issue with my driver's side window. The other month the regulator failed so I replaced it. Now the window doesn't drop as it should when you open the door. Upon further investigation the issue seems to be with the motor, which is strange because everything worked perfectly fine before the regulator cable snapped. Just been doing a search of both motors and the look pretty same to me, although I guess there may be a circuit board inside that operates the window differently (due to it being a cab). Does anyone have any knowledge or help with this. Here's the 2 motors from each car: 996 Cab driver's side: Audi A6 driver's side:

POST 2Original post

Not a shock. Quite a lot of 996 (and 986) electrical parts are VAG in origin. Window motors, door latches, ignition switch, head light switch to name a few. Porsche even list some of them under their VAG part number.

POST 3Original post

well they both have the same Audi logo on them

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm gonna buy one next week and will update on my findings.

POST 5Original post

one thing I discovered is a 986 motor is not the same as a 996 motor. When you drop the roof a 996 motor lowers the window completely then it goes back up while a Boxster motor only drops the windows and inch or so to clear the roof before it goes back up. Fine if you replace both but in my case I have a window that completely drops and the other that only drops an inch.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, I'm guessing there's a circuit board inside that has a different chip in it. My plan is to strip mine, find where the backlash is coming from that's preventing the drop, then 'manchester' it (old local engineering term for bodging) so it's right......or get the circuit board out my old one and fit it in the new one. Until I open them both up I don't know which.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: The new Audi motor turned up yesterday, still in it's original box, bought off a seller on eBay for £48. Prices for the Porsche one range from anything between £400-£600, 2nd hand around £200. Plugged the new motor in and no joy (which I thought would be the case). So I unscrewed the 4 screws holding the socket to the motor and slid it out. Turns out that bit has a circuit board on it that controls how the window operates. Swapped it over with my original motor, refit to the car and hey presto - works perfect!!!! Worth knowing that if you replace one of these motors, you don't need the specific one for your model, you just need to swap sockets on them with your original one. As usual, took a few snaps for reference. Photos show parts in question from both Audi and my original Porsche one: New Audi motor with socket removed: Audi socket and circuit board. Motors. Circuit Boards (Porsche on the right). Porsche on the left.

Is there anyway we can start doing tags on threads but keep it really basic, like: cost saving, free modification, delete, etc. then when someone selects that tag it brings up all the threads?

POST 15Original post

In the Delorean community we had a list of part numbers and corresponding equivalents from other manufacturers (largely Volvo). It would be incredibly useful to have something like a Google sheet to start pulling this together. I can kick this off - is anyone else interested in contributing?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
