Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

anyone done this change from oem? mine on my 997 3.8s are looking worse for wear and wondering if they are the same as the 996 3.4, 3.6 and 997 3.6 headers for the 3.8? they look the same. any help or links to where to buy welcome. NW

POST 2Original post

Yes, same fitment, I fitted 997 X51 manifolds to my 3.4. The 3.8 headers look restricted in shape :dont know: , the 997 X51 items are shaped like the 3.4/3.6 headers but with a larger bores. When I was looking I could not find anyone who made an aftermarket X51 design manifold, so I went to Porsche. I wanted the X51 design as its shape provides more ground clearance that the aftermarket offerings.

POST 3Original post

hey 3.8s looks different unless you have 997 3.6 there are the same. crash are X51 any bigger then standard 996?

POST 4Original post

Yes, the pipe bores are bigger, see below a picture of 3.4 / 3.6 / X51 manifolds side by side. - 3.4 is far left, then 3.6 then X51. 996 X51 manifold is the same size as the 997 X51. Also included is the 3.8S manifold next to the 997 X51.

POST 5Original post

NICE!!!! you are STAR!! :worship: So, NLW73 these looks the same but are different I don't think you can use 996's as you will restrict flow could loose some power too or more likely torque. crash7 - did you noticed better torque at low RPM?

POST 6Original post

Mine were fitted as part of a larger upgrade where the 3.4 was upgraded to, as near as dam it, a 3.7 X51. I also used titanium studs and nuts on the headers to avoid future issues.

POST 7Original post

hmmm in that case for sure you have some low torque increase 8)

POST 9Original post

I have the oem X51 headers and they sound amazing they give a nice growl, with added crackle and pop as well. Phil997 had some aftermarket ones on his gen1 but I am not sure where he got them. If you do go for oem ones expect to pay well over 1k for a pair. If you are giving the swap a go yourself and need a stomski jig let me know as I have one.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks all. Mike I might give you a shout on this. Crash where did you get the headers from? OPC? have you got the part numbers at all?

POST 11Original post

Yes from OPC, part numbers below, left and right manifolds are different, so different part numbers. If your planning on getting a pair let me know I may be able to get you a better price. 997.111.105.00 997.111.106.00

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cool thanks I will mail my guy at OPC reading and see what he comes back with.

POST 13Original post

perhaps you should go with something special

Please can i ask if you did buy the 997 X51 manifolds and they fitted without any issues to your 996? Or has anyone recently bought and fitted the 997 X51 manifolds to a 996, even though the part numbers are different and do not cross reference with Porsche so there must be some kind of minor differences? 99611110240 / 99611110140 vs 99711110500 / 99711110600 Thanks, Phil
