It seems all the stars aligned for this one, as not only did it tick all my boxes but it was the closest to me, and the first one I looked at!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I treated leather in a 997 I had and it worked a treat, needs a lot of time and patience though.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm now the happy owner of a 1998 silver, manual cabriolet! It seems all the stars aligned for this one, as not only did it tick all my boxes but it was the closest to me, and the first one I looked at! Not only that, but the previous owner needed a more practical car as he's moving house, and we pretty much just did a straight swap of our cars (I had a 2018 Golf) there and then It only has 90,000 miles and a good history for the past 12-15 years. Some earlier records are missing, but I figured anything that old is probably fairly irrelevant. There are a few niggles, as you'd expect. but nothing horrendous. These are the things he told me about: - The indicator stalk stopped working, so it has been replaced. Unfortunately the replacement has no Cruise Control stalk and doesn't cancel! He gave me the original though, so I just need to take it to pieces and see if I can fix it. - The aircon isn't as cold as it should be. One of the underbody pipes has a slight leak. - The return spring in the ignition barrel is broken - Brake discs are a bit ridged, so I'll need to replace discs and pads. I would have expected that anyway - One of the wires on the side of the soft top has broken out of the rubber channel. It doesn't let in water though - Wheels need some attention - Interior needs a bit of TLC Mechanically it seems great. Let the tinkering commence .....

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually @Alex - I noticed you have a thread that seems to be describing the same indicator issue, so I'll give that a read!

POST 3Original post

Congratulations on the new car I’m sure once you’ve done a few jobs on it you’ll love it

You're in the best place here and the forum will become a big part of your 911 ownership. When I joined up and didn't realise what I was getting in to. The knowledge, the friendliness, the banter, you're gonna love it!!

POST 5Original post

Well done, bargain 911 ownership. The minor problems that you mention are an easy fix and there is plenty of experience and help available on this forum.

POST 7Original post

Congratulations and welcome. All relatively easy fixes with loads of help and experience on hand. Ignition barrel issues are common and not expensive at all. Plenty of YT videos on this.

Thanks! Not only that, but there was a new barrel with the pile of history that the previous owner didn’t know about!

POST 9Original post

Great new purchase - well done. There will be little jobs to do every year - this forum will be your guide as to what to expect and how to do them.

Thread 'Convertible Soft-Top broken and fix with pics' 25 May 2015 A couple of days ago I noticed my soft-top wasn't closing properly on the passenger side above the windows so today I thought I'd have a go at sorting it out. See here the problem where the trim along the edge isn't sitting correctly in the side tracks After having a play around with the roof half open and a few internet searches it looked like something was wrong with the left... Yep that's the exact issue ... thanks!

POST 14Original post

Congrats, it looks well looked after. I’ve had my 996 20 years and counting with no plans to part with it. Look up COLOURLOCK UK, they have leather restoration and repair products. I ordered mine from Germany and paid just under £50. Worthwhile watching their videos. I treated leather in a 997 I had and it worked a treat, needs a lot of time and patience though.
