Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How many hours should it take for a garage with all the equipment and tooling to change the IMS. I reckon it's 2 days / 16hrs. Am i correct

POST 2Original post

I would have thought half that to be honest. Assuming everything goes smoothly. Give someone a call to confirm.

POST 4Original post

It’s never a 2 day job although if it’s a tip then I’m sure engine has to be dropped

But you get it signed, sealed, delivered in that time

POST 6Original post

Hi Roger, Did you get the work done? How many manhours did it come out at? Asking as I am looking to get the IMS/RMS done on a 2005 Tiptronic.

POST 7Original post

Engine needs to be removed so I would think 12-16hrs entirely reasonable

POST 8Original post

Only if it’s a tipper I think

I did get the IMS changed and it didn't need changing! - so done for piece of mind. I questioned the hrs as i was getting a wide range of prices and tried to base it against man-hours bearing in mind that the IMS part was some £600ish. I got quoted £1700 so felt it was a good price. When the engine came out i then changed the RMS, brake line over the engine, new engine mounts, gearbox mounts plus other pipes on top of the engine that needed to be change. AOS was good. So the bill then ran up but it made sense to do the work as the engine and box was out.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, engine and gearbox out. The garage told me it was more efficient to remove both.

POST 12Original post

Thanks all for the information, I'll start saving.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have some extra £'s available on top of your quote. When both engine and gearbox are out, no doubt there will be other jobs to do. If i had my time again i would have insisted on changing the AOS for piece of mind
