When I checked last year, the red one appeared to be recommended, so I bought a couple.

While checking the due date for the next service on the GT3, I noticed that the onboard vehicle service history has no entries, even though it had the two year service in 2023 at the OPC.

Rang Porsche South London to book my 2023 Boxster GTS 4.0 for first service. Cost: £1,265.65
Inspection - Every 20K Miles or every 2 Years Inspection £927.96
Additional - Every 2 Years Replace Brake Fluid / Check Tyre Sealant £188.29
Additional - Checking Water Drains Front Check And Clean £140.40
Total (Inc. VAT) £1,256.65
Other comments on here suggested it would be around the £720 mark. Does anyone have a similar experience or does this look right?
Call several OPCs to see if any are more competitive. The last service we paid for on our Cayman was £500 cheaper at an OPC 20 miles further away from our local one.
Phone around other dealers for prices.
Rang round Porsche dealers in the North West for a 10 year intermediate service on a Cayman GTS.
Prices varied from £699 to £1300 for the same service.
Most were similar at around the £900 mark. Each dealer i rang, i asked for a breakdown of what the service involved.
This was to check they all intended to do the same work.
Porsche Preston at £699 great service, including a courtesy car [ which was an Audi, not a Porsche]
Also extended the warranty at the same time. Car is now under warranty and service free for the next 2 years
You'll probably get offered the 4 wheel alignment as well. Everytime mine goes in they say the alignment is out of spec and we can put it back for circa £250 ffs.

Porsche Newport charged me £972 for the exact same work in November 2024 0n my CGTS 4.0. Obviously they are Dick Lovett group so you would hope Swindon would quote you the same price.

They certainly are.
Recently had my 718 GT4 4 year major service (rear bumper off, replacement aux belt and new plugs etc etc) done cost £1600 including brake fluid change and quality loaner.
The 2 year service was c£800.
Most OPCs will offer PGB discount off (even if you aren't a member)or 10% if you ask...plus a bit more off too if you
skip the 'wash and vac' nonsense.
One point make sure your OPC uses the correct oil there have been instances of the wrong oil being put in.
Just booked mine in with Bournemouth for April and it's £710 for the 2 year service including brake fluid change but no wash. Wouldn't let them near my cars paintwork!!!
Porsche courtesy car included.
Edited by JurassicGTS on Friday 10th January 17:50
If you also tell them you don't want the top up oil and bag or the screen wash that'll save you another £70.
If you can, try and have your service done out of the London area. Captured market and all that.
Hold your breath for the 4 years GTS 4.0 service bill……
I always check all the OPCs in driveable distance and for once OPC Reading were the cheapest (usually they’re the most expensive). Booked for next month.

I have this one due in a month or so
Preston
Hull and Leeds were close on the price too.
Benefit of Preston is they have their own Mot centre so you know your car won't leave the OPC and be ragged round the ring road a couple of times and dumped at the under the arches shack MOT garage/Kwikfit and arrive back at the OPC smoking and with 200 miles added.

I just picked my BGTS 4.0 up this evening from Porsche West London from its 4 year major service.
It was £2.2k for that which was pretty eye opening !
They also made me wait 1h20mins when I came to pick it up as they couldn’t find it in their storage area. Was NOT impressed.
Some poor couple on the table next to me were in there having had a brake failure on their car. The service technician said they had SIXTY cars waiting to be seen for warranty and recall work.

Is this the going rate for the 4 year second service? Seems a lot.
Expensive these cars for sure. What you guys should do is check your average speed on the computer so that you can tell what it’s costing you for the semblance of owning a fast car today. Living in London mine is 17 mph yet my car will do sub 5 second 0-60 and 180 mph too speed. Go figure.
£2k is madness, but you have no choice especially if you want a warranty.
Servicing costs use to be pretty reasonable now costs have just gone mental for basically just a filters and oil change!
Is a brake fluid change any different to a bmw which costs less than £100.

I find the "environment charge" rather cheeky. I presume it's a legal requirement or perhaps a tax the OPC pays to dispose of oil. In my view they shouldn't show that as an itemised cost; it should just be within the service price.
Relatively I don't think the servicing charges at OPCs are particularly expensive (with discount) even for Porsche GTs bearing in mind the complexity of these cars and their engines.
The other two advantages with Porsche is the cheap ££ cost of their superb warranty which is just £750 a year for the GT4 and £1200 for the GT3 (relatively cheaper if 2 or 3 years are bought) and not 1 but 2 year service intervals with no running in service either.
Compare that to the likes of Maclaren and Ferrari for example.
But Porsche is not like a Ferrari it’s more Audi these days, and as for complex you have some trainee change the oil and filters and plug in a laptop then check tyre depths etc, hardly complex and about an hours work but they would have you believe it takes all day! Which is the same routine as any other manufacturer. Independents are more knowledgeable then the average OPC service Tech.
I remember when a Porsche minor was £400 and a major £600 or there about but at the time the likes of Ford would be about £200 for an oil change service! So hardly expensive.
Disagree.
Apart from a few Audi RS engines.... Audi are just the same as Porsche you claim?? Even the basic GT3 has what is effectively the 911 Cup racecar engine so a highly complex and sophisticated high revving engine.
GT4P said:

Usual story some are some aren't.
But given the potential warranty implications of using most indies v most OPCs for cars under warranty at least, this invariably swings it in favour of a good OPC who will try and price match anyway before you even think about the ramifications for inevitably lower residuals on your p and j if you choose an 'under the arches' back street shack garage just to save a few quid.

Exactly, the amount of time I hear this, your car is in the hands of one person, doesn’t really matter who they work for, if they are s
te they are s
te, if they are good they are good.
Everyone has an off day, might just be when they are working on your car and make a mess.
When it comes to servicing it shouldn't matter where you take it, when it comes to diagnosing and repairing faults this is when someone who knows how to properly diagnose faults (which sadly doesn't tend to be main dealers these days) really comes into play and can save you a fortune.
I see so many posts where people list the £5k of work they have had done under warranty and when you add that work up it comes to around a grand or fifteen hundred quid, often less than the last 3 years of warranty they have been paying.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Porsche warranty is one of the best warranties out there, compared to BMW, Mercedes or even Audi it is incredible value, and worth it purely for the reassurance that if the worst does happen and you need a new engine it is in place, but the reality is you need to add the price of the servicing in with the warranty to get to the true costs of it, and I would bet my house that the winner in Porsche here, not the owners.

Should have said bar GT3 engine based cars
While checking the due date for the next service on the GT3, I noticed that the onboard vehicle service history has no entries, even though it had the two year service in 2023 at the OPC. So that’s OPC servicing for you. When they omit the simplest of tasks, you have to wonder what else has been omitted. The service was paid for by the dealer as it was within a few months of my purchase and I have a list of the work that was supposed to be done but I have no way of checking. Even a used oil analysis likely wouldn’t reveal much since the oil service is effectively a 50% oil dilution.
There are plenty of Porsche Partner Network (PPN) independents who charge anything from £75 / hr rates upwards and I’ve not heard any cases where warranty has been denied when cars are serviced correctly at a PPN. That’s the whole point of PPN status. You can always hypothesise to extremes about having your GTS, GT3 etc serviced by a back street garage, but I doubt anyone sensible who is paying for an extended warranty is going to take their pride and joy to the local Kwikfit for oil or spark plugs.
I don’t particularly think the complexity of an engine has any correlation with the cost or difficulty of changing the oil or filter?
You’re paying for the expertise, experience and tooling on site (wherever that may be) if there’s a problem with said engine?

Preston is my OPC and my GTS is booked in for an MOT with them in March. If my 4 year service is £1600 when it comes up in a year I'll be happy with that. Unfortunately the £2200 most probably includes Porsche and London tax I'm afraid.I really wouldn't be paying that.

I am the same. I would expect my 4year service on my 781 GTS to be round £1600. Norwich is local OPC.
Just be clear on what you're getting before you book it in.
Leeds came in hundreds cheaper than their nearest competitors (all same parent group btw) for my 8 year service last year (981 GT4).
Handed the car back stating they hadn't changed the plugs as I hadn't requested them, they're on the service schedule FFS.
Asked me to bring it back as they were very busy, which I refused as i'm over an hour away, got them done with a bit of a wait and they covered the difference in cost (eventually).
As for the complexity statement, they're not complex by any means, they're just very awkward to work on.

Fair points Ed but as posted previously and on other threads one of the main issues of using even a good indie for work on newer Porsches under warranty is IF there is a major issue that develops it does give Porsche more wiggle room to reject a claim if non OPC history and the ramifications of this could well be catastrophic and not just financially either.
Agree there are good indies as well as good OPCs as well as bad and the older a car gets or if you choose to self warrant etc the attractions of an Indie doubtless increase especially if they seriously undercut OPC rates for the work required.
But having said this ask yourself would you even consider buying a relatively new Porsche GT with non OPC service history furthermore would you be prepared to pay the same for an identical car with Indie history as one with OPC history because most people wouldn't for a newer Porsche especially a GT and for obvious reasons too which is when using an Indie for work the overall advantages diminish rapidly.

If you call Porsche Reading & give them your reg they can look up on their database as the technician has to open/close tasks

Agree completely, I think you need to look at all as a package, the warranty is cheap, very cheap, the servicing however is not, but you need to look at the price overall and understand what that is bringing you.
Looking at around £10k over 5 years for warranty and servicing. £180 a month.
Mercedes are charging nearly that for warranty alone on an AMG product.
Like you said, if you know you are going to sell the car on at some point, then it could add back far more value than you have saved, depending on the value of the car of course.

Thought I’d say - with thanks to everyone for their advice - the lowest I’ve had is Bournemouth but it’s £905, so I can only say you have a very good deal if you’re getting it for £710. Thank you for all the perspectives.

Dud you request the 25% PCGB discount that has been negotiated with HQ?
Is this a recent thing? And do you know if it applies to all OPCs? As when I asked my OPC, which is part of Porsche Retail Group, just over a year ago they said they didn't offer discounts to PCGB members although they knew others did, mainly 10%
I looked on the Porsche club website after Jurassic’s tip and it is certain dealerships (Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Tonbridge, Norwich). The discount varies but I will ring a few tomorrow and see.
The first service of my CGTS 4.0 was £1085 at my local OPC, quite reasonable I thought.
I can’t be bothered phoning around -it’s way better to get to know the service advisor and the guy working on the car.
I came close to getting shot of the car after an engine failure, but Porsche were brilliant, replacing the engine (and bit more it seems) …..
My 2017 CGTS is due its first service under my ownership in a couple of weeks (eight year), which is a major + spark plugs + a few extra checks.
My local OPC, Glasgow, said £1480. Perth said £1420 (not really worth the drive through to save £60). Edinburgh said almost £1800, but, if i wanted, they'd collect my car from my house in Glasgow and drop it back through!
I've decided i'll probably be keeping the car long term so was actually tempted to go indi and drop the warranty to keep costs down, but a good indi quoted almost £1100 for this service so for the sake of £150 or so annualised, i'll stick with the OPC this time. Might ask them to drop the screen wash and top up bag though, if that take a few quid off.
My 2016 981 GT4 was inJune ‘24 for it’s 8yr service at my local OPC…
Final price is discounted 20%. 10%loyalty, 10% age of the car.
Your Porsche is booked in for the following:
MOT – Free Of Charge
Major service
Brake fluid change
Check Ancillary Unit Mounts And Chassis Visual Inspection of all Rubber Mounts For Damage
Replace Spark Plugs
Check Drive Belt
Total £1,576.66 -20% = £1,261.33
I provided my own oil, saving £60 off the quoted price.
Next time I’ll see how much PCGB membership might trim off.
Someone mentioned Porsche Partner Network indies, if using one of those doesn’t affect the extended warranty that could be an option but with the OPC discounts applied there may not be a lot in it.

It is nice to think there would be such reciprocal loyalty - and maybe it does still exist, I hope you do get it - but it has never worked for me. I was quoted £1,265 by Porsche South London for a 2 year oil service / brake fluid change which is a disgrace and what made me post on here in the first place. Thanks to the good posters on Piston Heads I have now seen quotes several hundred pounds (like yours) cheaper. The cars may be great but OPC service is the worst I have experienced of any manufacturer in three decades of car ownership. The disdain for customers both on sales and service is like nothing I have ever seen (and a consistent theme on this site). I am sure there are exceptions that prove the rule, but it is such a longstanding golden thread here and elsewhere, one can only conclude Porsche GB do not care one iota for customers feeling positive towards them. I find it an odd sensation to respect the car yet despise the company as much as I do, which undeniably eats away at my ownership enjoyment. I am sure others disagree but it is how I feel.

I feel your pain, and I hear you - brilliant post!
I had my 8 year OPC service carried out in the summer on my unsuspecting pride and joy, 2016 CGTS.
When I got it back home, oil level was on bottom segment, washer fluid took a couple of pints to fill, none of the bleed nipples showed any sign of brake fluid when I poked a cocktail stick in.
Very underwhelmed and shocking really.
On the plus side I was only £1,000 worse off as they gave me a bit of a discount. I did feel like a flasher leaving the showroom as I nearly tripped up on my pants which were around my ankles for some reason...

So did you take it up with the service manager?
I asked the service lad about the low oil and he said pop back in (40 mile round trip) and they would top it up.. It was the next day when I thought about that I did my other investigative work.I'm sure they scratched my front wing as well, but how fo you prove it?
In the end I just thought F it, I'll only get a load of bull from them and look like a whinger.
They won't be having any more of my money, thats for sure. I wouldn't mind, but all the 'work' is very basic anyway and I could easily have done it my self, but it's the 'OPC history' you worry about in the service book at resale time. Might have well have taken it to Kwik Fit.

They won't be having any more of my money, thats for sure. I wouldn't mind, but all the 'work' is very basic anyway and I could easily have done it my self, but it's the 'OPC history' you worry about in the service book at resale time. Might have well have taken it to Kwik Fit.
Not being funny but you paid 1k for a service which you say, basically wasn’t done and you didn’t go back?
Was there plugs in that, think my 8 year included plugs too?

Disagree.
Apart from a few Audi RS engines.... Audi are just the same as Porsche you claim?? Even the basic GT3 has what is effectively the 911 Cup racecar engine so a highly complex and sophisticated high revving engine.
How does that make them more expensive to service? In fact, theres no 4 wheel drive, not turbos and less overall optional tech.
An oil change is an oil change. Yes, if the engine was being rebuilt it may take longer and be more complex but pretty much all Porsche engines are complex beasts. They dont make the 924 anymore!
Always worth phoning around, I've had some real comedy quotes from some of the Porsche owned OPCs. Shame as they are much closer but I always use them for the MOT at least as it saves driving those extra miles and it's fixed price.

One has to pop into an OPC, I think.

So my beloved dearest Porsche Cayman is up for the 12 year service in August with OPC warranty expiring in October.
I am in a dilemma and after reading the posts - even more confused.
2 OPCS - have quoted me 1800-2000 for the work and then another 1265 for warranty for 2 years so that makes it approx. £3k or go to RJB Tamworth for £850 - saving of approx 2.2k for any work required.
It is coming towards the 15 year age and OPC warranty limit and has had full FPSH but I intend to keep the car forever as its a high spec PCCB, PTV, Buckets, manual PSE etc car.
Paulguitars price is really cheap and unfortunately the 981 is not considered to be a Porsche classic til next year which helps out prices furthermore @ OPC. Hmmmm, food for thought
Just before my warranty expired at 12 years, I needed the door lock replacing. OPC advised the retail cost would be £2500 although in my case it was covered under warranty.
I had already committed to extending the warranty for another three years and maintaining OPC servicing, but this reinforced my thought process.

As mentioned by another poster, check what is included on that because bet they haven't included the PDK service (oil change & filter). That bit of the Service alone within the Indy network is ~£700.

I’ve never heard about this discount for age of car ….i have a 2016 Spyder but my local opc only does the Pocgb discount
And free MOT !!!!
I was surprised too but it happened! I still have the email from the OPC. All very handy as they are 10mins from home. Some of the stories posted here, I’m glad I don’t have to ring round and travel an hour or so to get it done.

Thanks. I have a manual transmission and Porsche are quoting me only £190 to the change - a lot less than the PDK variant

Hi bud, yes thank you. I was mulling on it. I do not even use cruise control on my daily commute and I thought it would come in handy on a manual car with all the motorway speed limits. I will consider it. Btw, have you used it and would you recommend it?

Your quote has almost swayed me. The dealers wont even let me use BMC filters as it affects the warranty! I am quite surprised there. I stated I could change the filters myself to save a few hundred but they refused

The door lock mechs go all the time on Porsches for some reason, but although they charge silly prices for a new one, you can use buy one from third parties for under £100. Most models will take one from an Audi TT cab and they can be had for £30.
My point being, people tot up the bills from Porsche for warranty work, but that work would never cost anywhere near that if you got a local indi to carry it out.
Like the PADM units failing, £3k repair bill, but if you are out of warranty you would just buy the module on the side that fails for £200 and swap them over quickly.
However, I would still take out the warranty. Haha

I use it daily. Cruise control seems to be a subject that fires people up on Pistonheads. I once started a thread about it and had to run for cover, it was more contentious than the worst of the NP&E discussions!

RJB at Tamworth look after my 996 and a number of friends Porsches - Scott knows his stuff and he gives a sensible inspection report unlike the OPCs. I've a PH friend with a 981 Cayman & he gets it serviced at RJB.
Hi Ed. Neumann,
For future reference, please could you tell me where to get PADM Modules for £250.
I don’t run a Porsche warranty and would like to be prepared when the inevitable happens
Thank you
This thread has the guy who is selling the new modules.
The issue with the oem mount is water ingress into the PCB, these replacement units are completely embedded in silicone so that will no longer happen.

Yes I have heard great things about them. The other side of the midlands: Zuffenhaus. Thank you for your comment- reassuring if I do take the indy route that the locals have a good reputation.
Issues I consider is: Dynamic mounts, the headliner and door warping, exhaust valves sticking, the lock as mentioned above - thats where the warranty is priceless and less to worry about. I can see the 981 being a reliable car with high mileages being achieved with little issues.

Headliner is usually only an issue in VERY hot climates. I've only seen that & the door card issue in the US where the car lives outside & subjected to years of direct sunlight, which breaks down the glue/bond

Not so… on my previous 981 CS exhaust valve jammed solid. Left bank exhaust was replaced under warranty. £3k without it.

Porsche Tonbridge have quoted £1400 for a 6 year service on my Cayman T, including air filter, belt and brake fluid change.
Have you got a comparative quote from Paragon?
If you are a member of Porsche GB I think you may also get a 10 per cent discount at Tonbridge. (Worth calling Portsmouth as they will give you a bigger discount and the price may be lower.)

I think if you are a PCGB member at £80 per year you get 25% off servicing at Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Tonbridge and Norwich all the time.
Correct, and if you join PCGB during 2025 and live anywhere near Bournemouth, you will be invited to a new members breakfast meeting, tour of the workshops etc., and get a 30% off service and parts voucher.

Can somebody verify this is the case at OPC Norwich re getting 30% off service charge. Looks a no brainer and to a point too good to be true.
Thanks

Result! I am 3 miles from Bournemouth OPC and my new (to me) Cayman GTS 4.0 lands next week, fingers crossed.
We asked Tonbridge and they didn't mention the 25% discount. Just 10% so our 6 year 60,000 nile service inc vat was £2200 at most OPCs vs £1600 at Bournemouth. Worth a drive to save £600 and they give you a nice loan car. Asked indies they were all more expesnive at £1800 ish.
I am glad you said that. That was also my experience in Tonbridge offered 10 per cent. I went to Portsmouth and had excellent service on both my Boxster and Macan services

Join PCGB, register as Region 26.
You will get an email welcoming you and following on an email inviting you to the PCB new members event in September.
Attendees will get a voucher offering 30% instead of the normal 25% discount on service parts and labour PCGB members get at Bournemouth and Portsmouth.
Oh and the monthly meetings are now held at The World's End, Almer. A cracking venue, PCB are doing a talk in June and there is a Hog Roast summer party in July

GTS 4.0 is the greentop mobil 1 c40.
Did anybody get clarity on which oil is right for the GT3 engine - a Spyder R/S in this case? I ve seen the above picture a few times on here, but the top up bottle that came with the car is the green version, and the Mobil website says the green one is correct too. Is the red bottle outdated now?
Edited to add, the car manual says C40 GT oil, but also says the sticker in the car overrides whatever information is in the manual. So I checked the sticker:
Which makes the supply of the green non-GT C40 oil all the more odd by the OPC or factory - whoever supplies the oil in the pouch.
Edited by JLZ78 on Thursday 24th July 14:01
I think the red one is the later recommendation. My new GT4 RS didn't come with a top-up bottle late August last year (last couple of non GT/RS Caymans I've had came with the green bottle). When I checked last year, the red one appeared to be recommended, so I bought a couple. 2600 miles later I haven't even used half of the first one.
Definitely the red top Mobil 1 C40 GT oil.
Porsche have specifically demanded a switch from the earlier green top which was for all cars with particulate filters ... now modified not to include the GT3 engined cars which has to be the red top C40 GT oil.
I'm on my 4th and 5th Caymans now, and have had 3 different oil specs to keep track of. 2017 718 2.0 and 2016 981 GT4 were on the gold, 2021 718 2.0 and 2023 718 GTS 4.0 on the green, and 2024 GT4 RS on the red. Great fun to try and keep track of!
Anyhow, cutting back to the original topic, 2 year service for the Cayman GTS 4.0 next week, and has been quoted at £1,180.17 at my favourite OPC. Might get reduced a little as I don't think I need any more screenwash concentrate or top-up oil just now. Better check the shelves and let them know in good time if I don't.
I don’t know which your favourite OPC is but if you went to Portsmouth it would be £300 less, just saying. I paid under £800 for the same a few months back
I'm a lot further north, and actually happy to pay a little more for servicing. There are tangible benefits to having a good and loyal relationship with an OPC. But interesting to know this, so thanks Richard!
