But on the first tube I installed I didn't clean it first and it refused to seat without using excessive force.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I have tried the boat plug..even wrapped with sand paper..still keeps slipping out..? Thanks Frank

Boat plug worked for me. Just make sure that it's dry and get's all the way in before you start expanding it. Also. When re-installing the tubes, I found that as long as I made sure that the 0 rings were wetted in oil and the seat was clean they slipped in just fine. But on the first tube I installed I didn't clean it first and it refused to seat without using excessive force. After I wiped down the seat it snapped right in with a push of the thumb.

POST 3Original post

A bent coat hanger works just fine for me. YMMV.

The absolute best is the Rauch & Spiegel M96-P100 “Flat-Rater” Spark Plug Tube Puller Tool, which works perfectly and is anything but cheap:

POST 5Original post

All you need is a bolt that's longer than the tube with a washer secured at both ends. Insert into the tube so that one washer hooks the bottom of the tube and pry out. Works well. cheers- dj

+1 to A 986 S Check this thread: http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/64565-spark-plug-tube-removal-tool.html

POST 7Original post

Anyone who looks at my tools always asks what the tool is for like A986S'. Use the same thing and it always works great. Tried the boat plug but had a couple tubes crack when trying that but it does work if you are careful.

POST 8Original post

Same thing I use. Most times the simplest solution is the best solution.

POST 9Original post

I use Lock Ring Pliers, something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/SPEEDWOX-Retaining-Installing-Automobile-Transmission/dp/B07QYR719L/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Lock+Ring+Pliers&qid=1622155052&sr=8-2 They work great... Squeeze and pull. Do not insert the tool too far, you want to catch just the outside end of the tube. I always replace my tubes if I am pulling them. If you do not plan to replace the tubes make sure you have spare tubes in-case you get too aggressive squeezing the pliers (could crack the tube).

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many Thanks to all,..Great suggestions and Yes Jager I do have all new Tube's and rings..

POST 11Original post

3/4 pipe and cap works too. I just made a quick video for you because I did this job last weekend and had prior to doing so had read multiple ways to remove them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPkTYTKgZVE&t=15s I plan on posting more 986 content, so subscribe if you like!
