I think it's probably a replacement hood as the rear screen is glass ...
Leading evidence: 'replacement hood as the rear screen is glass' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'replacement hood as the rear screen is glass' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run across the roof has just pulled the wire out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The tensioner running across the roof has just pulled the wire out from the rubber tube.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I have the usual soft top issue where the cable doesn’t sit in the guide above the passenger window.
I followed Alex’s photo guide / a YT video and removed the necessary bits. However, when I removed the final 4 Phillips screws to reveal the cable anchor/rivet it became clear that my soft top is not a metal plate but a single plastic molding across the full width!
EDIT... just realised the plate is ABOVE the plastic moulding and I need to lever up the roof a little to access it. Watch this space ....
Although it may be to do with the cross-roof tensioner coming away from the cable, see below...
So, after dismantling back to the cable anchor, there is no problem at that point. Rivet is intact, cable is in good condition. I think it must be an issue with the cable splitting out of the rubber channel which is on the edge of the canvas. Doesn't seem right though, as it would always wear through easily you;d think.
It does seem a weak point as all thats holding a steel cable under tension is a rubber tube! However, I haven't found much info on the web about thos issue so it must be something not quite right in my hood. I'll do some deeper investigation.
I think it's probably a replacement hood as the rear screen is glass ... am I right in thinking it would have been plastic originally?
I've just had a good look, and it simply needs the canvas stitching back to the cable (with a piece of rubber tubing). The tensioner running across the roof has just pulled the wire out from the rubber tube.
