Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Both levels are fine so it cant really be something inside there as it would be filled with liquid.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, New Porsche owner and first time poster. I got a bit of a strange one here. I've got a 996 c4s and have a front end noise similar to the sound of a 10mm socket rolling around on the under tray or in the wheel well. I've read a lot of forums and people pointed to the tuning forks, in my case it's not that. Its also nothing on the under tray or in the wheel well, to be clear haha! Yesterday I got the car up on the ramp and could replicate the noise by shaking the car sideways. Took the front under tray off and identified the noise is coming from what sounds like inside the black plastic tank above the front diff (Maybe the washer fluid or coolant tank?) or somewhere nearby. Both levels are fine so it cant really be something inside there as it would be filled with liquid. I really cant think. Perhaps someone dropped something behind the radio and its fallen down to the bulkhead floor? If anyone has any ideas it would be fantastic as I had to give up yesterday! Video attached to the post! Video - Google Drive Cheers everyone Isaac

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cant say thats a noise I would recognise! But for sure it's coming much further forward than any exhaust part. It's certainly coming from above the front diff.

POST 3Original post

Its above the front diff. The black plastic tank above the diff. is the fuel tank.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah how did I not think fuel tank!! So used to fuel being in the back end of cars. One quick search for fuel tank rattle 996 has brought up this thread - https://911uk.com/porsche/996-c4s-rattle.23387/ Sounds like this could be a good place to start
