Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone! Im new to the forum, having just registered after doing a lot of lurking and researching, looking for everything I need to know about the 996 911. I just want to say that Rennlist has been a valuable resource in my research process and finding the information I needed was easy and quite thorough! Ive been looking for a new car for a while, something to have some fun with. Porsche was high on my list, and I was keeping an eye out locally and on BaT for 996s and 944s. The 944 just appealed to me, but when I found one locally to sit in I discovered I dont fit. Im on the tall side at 64, and after more research here found that the 996 should be just fine for me. Lo and behold but two 996s that fit my criteria show up on BaT. I passed on the first one, a red 2003 Carrera 4, but the second one was very local, and the seller let me come by and take a look. Once I sat in it, I knew it was going to be mine! Fast forward a week and I got to pick up my new-to-me 99 911 in Vesuvio Metallic over Space Gray leather, complete with the aero package! I have never seen a Porsche this color before, and rarely do I see one with that rear wing from the aero package. After driving it for a week straight, I finally get how Porsche owners can be such rabid fans. This is one of the best cars I have ever driven! I plan on it being just my Friday and weekend driver, but Im definitely considering going on some of the local drives every now and then, and hopefully plan on auto crossing it or taking it to a track day or two. I dont have too many pictures yet (too busy driving it!) but heres my new baby Oogi!

POST 4Original post

Beautiful car! Those wheels are my favorite of all the stock options. I like the color too (i had to Google Vesuvio Metallic).

POST 5Original post

Stunning! More interior pictures and specifications please (year, options, miles, etc.)!

POST 9Original post

Wow! Dont think Ive seen that color before. Looks great. Just curious what you bought the car for (if youre ok sharing that info), as its very similar to my 99 aero C2.

POST 10Original post

The first 911 I almost bought, back in the day, was Aubergine....which looks a lot like Vesuvio Metallic. What a neat color! Nice!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! @Ratchet1025 more pictures and options incoming, including the mods I inherited!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Bash Hat my winning bid was $22,250, with an additional 5% fee to bringatrailer.com, so $1,112.50, so all in it cost $23,362.50. Hope that helps!

POST 14Original post

Congrats! Nice car, I watched the auction closely and was impressed by the strong bidding. It is indeed a rare color combo on an early aero car. Enjoy it! for those that want to see more, heres the link to the auction with a bunch of pix... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19..._listing_ended

POST 15Original post

Tenzin, Wow what a score on that ride! Are the calipers factory yellow on this year 996? I love the color too! How many miles on it? Please provide more details with us if you be so kind. I never heard of the bring a trailer website before. Maybe you saw my post of the car I just bought off the website Nextdoor which I thought was a interesting place to post a Porsche for sale. Are you going to join the PCA of Los Angeles chapter? I would like to see your car at one of the events and talk 996 stuff. This is is great website and I to have learned a ton from the guys and gals! Well guys anyway I I haven’t seen any gals post but I’m sure they are here too! more pictures please! Congrats! And welcome to the fun! Eric Manhattan Beach, CA

POST 17Original post

What a cool color, and the aero kit is just icing on the cake. Congrats on winning such a neat C2.

Thats a solid deal for that car. Congrats!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@hartmn I've never heard of anyone posting anything for sale on Nextdoor before, but I saw your post and I think you got a great ride! As far as joining PCA, I've already signed up. Now it's just time to wait for the next event to come along that I can make it to. @jllphan you beat me to it, I was going to pin that here for more pictures! Bidding on it was a bit of a nail biter for me, especially at the end, but I'm very happy with how everything went and with how BaT handled everything. Right now it has about 66,2xx-ish miles on it, I got it with 66,019 and was ecstatic about it. Here's the options list: XAA Aerokit X54 Stainless-steel tailpipes X70 Stainless-steel door entry guards with logo X71 Alu-look instrument faces X97 Aluminum inlay gear lever X98 Aluminum inlay handbrake lever 234 Internal production code for tires 375 2-way electrical sports seat, left 376 2-way electrical sports seat, right 408 18″ 993 Turbo Technology hollow-spoke wheels 424 CD compartment 490 Basic sound system 688 CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-210 983 Leather front seats The basic radio and sound system is currently my biggest gripe on the car, which is awesome, honestly. I wish that I'd have more cars where the biggest issue was the radio! I'm planning on upgrading the speakers and head unit eventually, but for now I'm content to just listen to it while I drive . As far as the inherited mods go, it has a short shifter with an aluminum shift **** fitted that I think is pretty good. The **** feels much weightier than my other manual car ('07 Civic Si, a far cry from this baby), and once it warms up the shifting is nice and precise. It also has Koni shocks and Eibach springs that lower it about an inch or so all around, a Fabspeed intake, Agency Power exhaust, and cross-drilled Meyle rotors. The only fix I have left to do is the wiring for the driver's side seatbelt that's showing an airbag warning light. That'll be a weekend project I'll take care of soon enough, but until then I'll be driving it as much as I can! So much fun!!!

POST 21Original post

Congrats! Being a 996 owner is a special kind of “not quite right”. Glad someone posted the BAT pics. Love the color! Looks like you got a sweet deal. See you around the board. TC

POST 22Original post

Congrats. I chatted with the seller during the auction because I noticed on the auction pics that the embossed Turnwald PD logo on the underside of the wing doesnt also say Made in France. My XAA car was made in 9/98 and it also doesnt say Made in France but I was convinced that it was an OEM wing because of the quality of the piece. Every aftermarket replica wing that Ive seen looks just a bit....off. Prior to your car being listed on BaT I had no way to prove my theory. The seller of your car shows that at least some early XAA cars didnt yet have this wording.

POST 23Original post

@tenzin Beautiful color and scoring an Aero is always a plus. The sports seats are sweet!

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15487118

I'd never seen a color like that on a Porsche before outside of custom paint jobs, so it was really neat to find that it was stock that way. The seats are pretty comfy, but I will admit I'm just a bit too big for them I think. The bolsters don't quite wrap around me the way they're supposed to :-D. Still, comfy enough for some spirited driving here and there, so I'll take it. I've found that people are very much divided on the Aero, it's a love it or hate it kind of thing, and I gotta say I love it!

I had to look that up, oh my goodness gracious that is a beautiful color. The Vesuvio Metallic is nowhere near that bright, but it definitely looks purple in the daylight. I hope you're enjoying it in VA, just not right now with all the snow. I'm originally from Charlottesville, and the thought of being able to drive through some of the roads I used to drive is definitely a dream I'll have to fulfill someday!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, before I forget, I have no idea if I posted this in the right place, so if I did put it where it shouldn't go, my apologies!

POST 27Original post

Haha! You've been bitten! You will never be the same! Before you replace the sound system, try driving around for a few weeks with no radio, just the music of the engine! Love the color! I think it's amazing how some Porsche colors seem to almost have a two-color tone to them. My Midnight Blue Metallic is a very dark blue, and in the sun has the purple highlights. Join PCA and participate in driving events, you will not be sorry you did!

That's the plan! I still want to at least start thinking about and planning on how much it'll cost to get the stereo and everything overhauled, but for the time being, I'll be happy to just listen to the sound of that glorious engine. The aftermarket mufflers make it sound juuuuust right I think

I picked mine up from getting an oil change at NARW in Reseda recently. When the Indy backed it out he asked if I had disconnected the battery because the radio was tuned to some random Spanish speaking AM station. I told him, nope. I just haven't used the radio in over a year

POST 31Original post

Congrats !!! Very nice well optioned 996 Aero !! Especially like all the "X" options, and the hollow spoke wheels are VERY rare and desirable ($$$$) !!

POST 32Original post

Great looking (almost) twin car! I hadn't seen another 996 in Vesuvio with an aerokit on here yet. Got mine on BAT too.

POST 33Original post

Also just noticed the clear side markers; mine are going on as soon as the car is back from the shop. It looks waaaaay better.

POST 34Original post

I wonder if the OP after 4 years still owns the car? Huh....

POST 35Original post

I wonder also. Only ten posts so he didn't stay very active. Figured I'd bump the thread and see if he chimed in.

POST 36Original post

Congrats, 4 years later....lol WTF I'll go back to sleep now.

POST 37Original post

More coming! I ran out of weather and the car is at the shop getting some goodies put on and some imperfections...unimperfected. Build thread to come once it's back in my hands.

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 17919364

So you bought the most recent one from BAT? How is it? Those pics didn't do the car's paint justice I'm sure. You happy with the transaction / car? Congrats!

POST 39Original post

Yes, got it back in November. Overall I was happy with the car and transaction. There were some little things here and there that were not shown clearly or disclosed in the listing, and the first time I tried to put down the passenger window the regulator failed and needed to be replaced. I knew there would be some things about the car that needed attention but I was able to grab what I wanted (1999 C4 with Aerokit, M030 suspension, Sport Seats, and Sport Design 18" or 408 hollow spoke twist wheels) at a fair-ish price with a very rare color. I can't wait for spring.

POST 40Original post

I need to start reading the dates on these things. I almost fell off my chair when he said he bought a 996 MK1 in Vesuvio with AERO for $22,500. Then saw it was from 2018. However, even at that time was still a solid deal.
