It was always Nissan, "Datsun" was the name used not to tarnish the parent name in case of failure - you might have known this, but I just wanted to clarify!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Driver's Republic - The Truth 030 I dun think this has been posted. But here is the truth about the GTR.

POST 3Original post

So basically the GT2 is within a couple of seconds of where Porsche says it is, and the GTR is 20 seconds slower than Nissan says it is. Interesting...

POST 6Original post

This was a great read. Also, a very well done website with quality photos and video. Check it out.

POST 8Original post

When we see a GTR win the Nurburgring 24 hours, I'll be convinced of the bang for buck.

POST 9Original post

No one finds it odd that the comparison was always versus the 997 Turbo and NOT the GT2? When did the GT2 come into the picture? Look at how much time it makes up on the straights with it's 70 extra HP. The V-spec car would be a more fair comparison with the GT2. Nissan is hoping to break the world record with it. By the way, the GT-R lap is available on video. Oh yes, and for $995 your GT-R gets pretty close GT2 power.

POST 10Original post

Well 530-490 = 40hp not 70, which side are u on anyways ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 11Original post

You know, after seeing the article and videos of the GT2 vs the GT-R, I have to give a nod of respect to Nissan for their accomplishment. It was a first time effort in a couple of (or few) years versus a race proven and long lineage of decades of development. It is the price/satisfaction equation that is the point in my opinion. That's the message that may make Porsche nervous: "Why then do they charge so much for their performance point?" Nissan seems to have shown us that very respectable performance can be purchased for half the cost of traditional exotic brands. The same argument has also been fielded with the Dodge Viper. That said, I still prefer my CS as it has the combination of superior styling and status/exclusivity that as they say in the commercials, is... priceless .

POST 12Original post

Exactly, Porsche is Porsche, no matter what "Datsun" does, still we have to admit the GT-R is a great car.

POST 13Original post

Saw a GT-R at PCA Oktoberfast. May be fast, but it looks very Japanese (read "ugly"); Frankstein's moster. Note that this post is #666 - the mark of the beast - bad karma for the GT-R.

POST 14Original post

It was always Nissan, "Datsun" was the name used not to tarnish the parent name in case of failure - you might have known this, but I just wanted to clarify!

POST 15Original post

To me, I made my decision. The CS and the GTR are essentially in the same price range. To buy the GTR or the CS. Well...it is clear what I chose. I know the GTR will eat my CS alive....but the CS is still my choice. Different strokes for different folks .... so like what has been mentioned, the side that we are on is our own side. It is not porsche or nissan. But rather, what we are looking for in the purchase at that relevant point in time. Right now, the GTR does not cook my eggs for me. It has only one thing going for it - performance. Beyond that, it has nothing else to me even though it has got 4 seats. But who knows...in the future, the performance bug might bite harder on me and I may want to get the GTR over a Porsche. But that is in the future. LOL!!

POST 16Original post

Yeah, in a straight line. On a twisty mountain road your Cayman S will prevail.

POST 17Original post

I've seen the GT-R and it's quite big for my liking. You can't argue with the numbers it produces. It's remarkable given the price point. I think of it as a modern day Falcon V8 that Max character drove in the movies. I've stated a few time before, that if there is one thing I dislike about Porsche, is their downright arrogance in respect to standard kit and cost of options on their cars. I'm not suggesting Porsche should lower the prices of their cars but I will be happy if the competition pushes the issue of what you get for the already premium price. $50K Cayenne with a hole where the Nav system should be and a stereo that came straight from a 1980 Carrera. $140K Turbo without standard Nav. I can go on all day but I think you get my point. I love the brand and the cars they produce, but they gotta cut us some slack and show some respect to their customers.

POST 18Original post

IIRC, the Evo Car of the Year test mentioned that the tighter and twistier the road, the better the GT-R does. If I was going to enter a race, I'd pick the GT-R over a Cayman S every time regardless of how tight and twisty the course was!

POST 19Original post

I know a 'supercar' specialty dealer who always seems to have at least two or three GT-R's,.. always for under $85,000. He seems to keep finding more and more of them and then turning them over at these prices. I know he gets them delivered from different parts of the country, but not sure how he keeps finding them so cheaply. MSG me if you want the connection. Personally, I prefer any serious mid-engine sports car to the big GT-R beast.
